Episode 13 recap: Su Xing joined the workers in a collective strike and unrest.
Dang Xun Qi sent people to capture Shi Chuan-ying, but old Zhao stood at the gate with his men, fearless even when the opposing side brandished guns. Old Zhao strictly ordered Dang Xun Qi's subordinates to immediately release Shi Chuan-ying, or else they would not be allowed to leave the company safely. Su Xing gathered his comrades who were in hiding at the shipping company, encouraging them to each mobilize their worker brothers, believing that as long as everyone worked together, the entire shipping company would be paralyzed.
Soon after, Dang Xun Qi and the others saw the news reports and learned that the workers of the shipping company had gone on a collective strike, again disrupting Luo Guan-ying's plan to lead the democratic activists northward. Zhuang Lao Da investigated the situation of the arms trade and found that his subordinates had leaked the transaction information to the police without authorization.
Dang Xun Qi came to the shipyard to question Manager Huang, and stated that the Communist Party had already captured Shi Chuan-ying, but Manager Huang spoke well for Shi Chuan-ying. Just then, the Liao Hai ship suddenly caught fire. Dang Xun Qi brought Shi Chuan-ying in for questioning, and Shi Chuan-ying lied that there was a problem with a section of the wiring, and that even with parts ordered from abroad, it would take at least three months for the round trip.
Wu Ya-nan pulled out a gun and pointed it at Shi Chuan-ying, forcing him to shorten the time. But the next moment, old Zhao led the workers in, ordering Dang Xun Qi and his men to release Shi Chuan-ying, or they would not be allowed to leave the company safely. The two sides were in a standoff. Seeing the situation was not good, Dang Xun Qi threatened Manager Huang to make the workers disperse, and Wu Ya-ming took Shi Chuan-ying as a hostage to cover Dang Xun Qi's retreat and departure by car.
On the way back, Dang Xun Qi was very annoyed, never imagining that the shipping company had Communist Party members infiltrating it, but also mindful that it was the jurisdiction of the Hong Kong British government, so he could only devise another plan.
Wang Da-long returned to the liaison station and reported the situation to Zhou Ya-ming, revealing that he had once fought with a female spy. Zhou Ya-ming suspected the man protected by the female spy should be the mastermind behind the scenes.
The victory of the shipyard greatly encouraged people like Su Xing and Zhou Ya-ming, who hoped to turn the passive into the active and thoroughly remove the Kuomintang's group of spies. Su Xing believed that the top priority was to guard this important position, and only by controlling it could they not only thwart the spies' plots, but also secure a precious fortune for the new China. Therefore, he suggested organizing a factory protection team that could protect the safety of the worker comrades at any time.
Luo Guan-ying, upon learning that the ship had encountered problems again, flew into a rage and questioned his ability to handle affairs. Dang Xun Qi could not vent his anger either, and promised to arrange a new ship in five days.
That night, Su Xing and Wang Da-long came to the shipyard to meet with the workers and discuss the next step strategy, encouraging them to each mobilize their worker brothers, believing that as long as everyone worked together, the entire shipping company would be paralyzed.
Soon after, the shipyard workers went on a collective strike, demanding that the factory management pay the overdue wages, and protesting the secret police's arrest of people. Luo Guanying and Dang Xunqi blamed each other, but Luo Guanying realized that he still needed Dang Xunqi to carry out the specific actions in order to complete the task, so he persuaded him gently.
In contrast, Manager Huang was caught in a dilemma and was at a loss. Su Xing took the initiative to approach him, tacitly acknowledging his Communist identity, and frankly said that there was still a win-win solution. At this moment, Dang Xunqi called Manager Huang to urge him to repair the ship as soon as possible. Tired of the other party's threats, Manager Huang expressed his inability to help and hung up the phone. Su Xing then gave him a solution to avoid the immediate trouble.
Just as Dang Xunqi was about to take Wu Yaming to the shipyard, Lin Shiman brought news that further infuriated him. Lin Shiman told Dang Xunqi that the only way to find the ship now was to get Zhuang Laoda's help. Although Dang Xunqi was very reluctant, given that he had no other options, he had to agree to let Lin Shiman arrange a meeting with Zhuang Laoda.
Zhou Yaming guessed that the enemy had run out of options, and now as long as he delayed time, Tong Jiangnan's side would surely have a turnaround. Zhang Shaomu came to deliver experimental materials to Tong Jiangnan and incidentally inquired about Tong Sheng's recent poor condition.
Tong Jiangnan truthfully explained the situation to Zhang Shaomu and recounted the reasons for the Kuomintang's killing of his beloved wife, hoping that Zhang Shaomu would persuade his daughter not to act rashly. Zhuang Laoda investigated the arms trade situation and found that it was his subordinate Acheng who had leaked the trade information to the police.
Acheng was terrified and was ultimately silenced by Zhuang Laoda. The Kuomintang's deputy officer Yang found Dang Xunqi and demanded the money for the arms. Dang Xunqi asked the other party to give him a few more days, but the other party required the money by the next day. Subsequently, Wu Yaman went to deliver a message to Zhuang Laoda on Dang Xunqi's behalf, asking him to meet at the Peninsula Restaurant at 8 o'clock that night.
Zhuang Laoda readily agreed and persuaded Wu Yaman to join him, but was rejected. When the appointed time arrived, Zhuang Laoda went to the meeting in person. Regarding the leak of the arms trade information, both sides had some hidden resentment and mutual suspicion.
