Episode 16 recap: Dang Xun Qi ordered Abao to kill Lo Kwan Ying.
Because Li Wen Bo had detained Lo Kwan Ying in the police station, the boss had to take matters into his own hands. Soon, the police chief ordered Li Wen Bo to immediately release Lo Kwan Ying, but Li Wen Bo was reluctant, believing that if Lo Kwan Ying was freed, he would organize human smuggling again, which would be impossible to stop.
However, the police chief would not listen, insisting that Li Wen Bo must follow the order. Similarly, Dang Xun Qi was completely dissatisfied with the boss and Lo Kwan Ying, realizing that as long as they were alive, he would become the scapegoat. To save his own life, Dang Xun Qi took the initiative, arranging for Abao to enter the detention center and strangle Lo Kwan Ying to death when no one was paying attention, in order to silence him.
Zhuang Lao Da firmly refused to share the losses, and angrily accused Dang Xun Qi of not only stealing money and paintings, but also injuring his subordinates. Faced with Zhuang Lao Da's accusations, Dang Xun Qi felt at a loss, and the two sides had a fierce argument.
Just as the atmosphere grew increasingly tense, Lin Shi Man suddenly burst in. She cleverly used her feminine charms to successfully appease Zhuang Lao Da's anger. At the same time, Lin Shi Man revealed to Zhuang Lao Da that the paintings were in the hands of the police chief, and that the person who stole them that night was the Communist Party.
Lin Shi Man represented Dang Xun Qi in negotiating with Zhuang Lao Da, pleading with Zhuang Lao Da to lend them a boat. However, Zhuang Lao Da made an exorbitant demand, directly asking for 100,000 to rent the boat, to which Lin Shi Man readily agreed, and even proposed an additional condition: she hoped that Zhuang Lao Da would accompany them on the voyage.
Aware that Lin Shi Man had a Kuomintang background, Zhuang Lao Da restrained his improper thoughts toward her, and their conversation was limited to business matters, without any other private feelings. Dang Xun Qi did not express much joy at Lin Shi Man's successful negotiation of this deal, but instead asked about the source of the funds. Lin Shi Man explained that the boss had left $10,000 for her emergency use, and the reason she insisted that Zhuang Lao Da accompany them on the voyage was to create an accident to make him disappear.
At the same time, Li Wen Bo, through reports from his subordinates, learned of the meeting between Lin Shi Man, Dang Xun Qi, and Zhuang Lao Da, and passed this information on to the Qiming Bookstore. Su Xing speculated that Lin Shi Man might be using Zhuang Lao Da's boat to transport personnel, and Wang Dalang, with Zhou Yaming's consent, immediately sent people to keep an eye on Zhuang Lao Da's dock.
Although Tong Jiang Nan had asked Zhang Shaomu to persuade Tong Sheng to abandon her plan to stay in Hong Kong and seek revenge, Tong Sheng remained determined. Zhang Shaomu knew he could not convince her, so he decided to stay and accompany her, determined not to let her face the danger alone.
Luoguan Ying has prepared the travel documents for the democracy activists, and everything is ready. However, Tong Jiang Nan suddenly announced that he has abandoned the plan to go north. After learning the reason, the people present all said they would stand together regardless of what happens.
Therefore, Luoguan Ying was extremely angry and found Dang Xun Qi, blaming him for failing to properly conceal his identity, which led to Tong Jiang Nan's daughter recognizing him and disrupting the plan again. Dang Xun Qi did not feel he was wrong and had an arrogant attitude. Luoguan Ying warned him that he must clean up the matter thoroughly, otherwise if the mission is delayed, he will report the situation truthfully to his superiors.
Learning that Tong Jiang Nan was unwilling to leave, Tong Sheng, Zhang Shaomu and others hurried to persuade him. Luoguan Ying also came forward in person, expressing respect for Tong Jiang Nan's personal choice, but earnestly asked him to consider the bigger picture and go north as soon as possible for the sake of the country's interests. Thinking of the sacrifices of Zhu Zhe, Li Ruchen and others, as well as the potential risks the Communist Party could face if the action stagnates, Tong Jiang Nan ultimately decided to follow the group north.
Yang's deputy was pressing Dang Xun Qi relentlessly, almost driving him to a dead end. He was inspired by Lin Shi Man's words and suddenly came up with a way to eliminate the threat permanently. The next day, Dang Xun Qi had Wu Yanan make all the preparations, and he greeted Yang's deputy enthusiastically, offering tea instead of alcohol to express his gratitude.
However, Yang's deputy did not notice anything unusual and drank the tea in one gulp. Soon, he felt excruciating abdominal pain and blood gushed out of his mouth, realizing then that Dang Xun Qi had poisoned the tea. Facing this, Dang Xun Qi helplessly stated that this was a desperate measure. Before dying, Yang's deputy threatened that Commander Wang would not let Dang Xun Qi off the hook.
Early in the morning, Tong Sheng had already packed Tong Jiang Nan's luggage. After receiving a call, Tong Jiang Nan hurriedly left in a rickshaw. The people arranged by Wang Dalong were monitoring the movements of the Tong family, and as soon as they saw Tong Jiang Nan appear, they quickly called the Qiming Bookstore to confirm that Tong Jiang Nan would be leaving Hong Kong that day.
