Episode 26 recap: Tong Jiang Nan went to the Governor to plead for leniency and to save Zhang Shao Mu.
The death of her lover dealt a huge blow to Lin Shi Man, and in order to avenge Dang Xun Qi, she secretly made a plan and proactively went to see the Commissioner of the Chinese Secretariat. Lin Shi Man pretended to be grief-stricken and stated that Zhang Shao Mu was her distant relative, hoping that the Chinese Secretariat could make an exception, especially since Zhang Shao Mu was eliminating a wanted criminal and therefore doing a public service, and should be released.
On the other side, Tong Jiang Nan personally went to see the Governor and earnestly begged him to pardon Zhang Shao Mu. The Governor, considering that Zhang Shao Mu was Tong Jiang Nan's student and one of the experiment's responsible persons, ordered the police to immediately release Zhang Shao Mu. Although Cha Liang Jie was reluctant, he still went to the prison to retrieve the person, warning him that if he wanted to avoid detection, he better not do anything, or else he would one day face the law.
Lin Shi Man secretly made a plan to avenge Dang Xun Qi. She personally went to see the Commissioner of the Chinese Secretariat, pretending to be grief-stricken, and claimed that she was entrusted by a friend to ask him to help release Zhang Shao Mu, and stated that if Dang Xun Qi was a wanted criminal, then Zhang Shao Mu was eliminating a public menace and should be pardoned.
Tong Sheng sought Cha Liang Jie's help, but Cha Liang Jie was hesitant and unable to grant her request. In order to rescue Zhang Shao Mu, Tong Jiang Nan could only pin his hopes on the Governor, but was turned away, with the other party refusing to see him after hearing his purpose. Li Wen Bo reported Zhang Shao Mu's situation to the Chinese Secretariat, believing there were many doubts and that he was likely a murderer covering his tracks.
Su Xing met with Tong Sheng to analyze Zhang Shao Mu's motives, suspecting he was likely a Kuomintang spy. However, Tong Sheng refused to believe it, stating that he was the benefactor who avenged her mother, and would not allow Su Xing to defame her benefactor. Chen Xue Wei went to the Tong family to scold Tong Sheng for implicating Zhang Shao Mu, but Tong Sheng directly stated that she had already sought help to rescue him to the best of her ability and did not wish to continue arguing.
After meeting with the Chinese Secretariat, Lin Shi Man told Ahui the situation in order to gain their trust. On the other side, the pro-democracy activists hurriedly came to the Tong family to understand the situation, fearing that if Zhang Shao Mu could not be released, they would not be able to go north. Tong Jiang Nan comforted the elder Ho, saying he had already prepared to lead all the teachers and students in the school to protest and pressure the Hong Kong British government to give them an answer.
That night, Su Xing visited the Tong family again, fully aware that Tong Jiang Nan still had doubts about him. However, he sincerely expressed his feelings, reminiscing about their past teacher-student relationship, which deeply touched Tong Jiang Nan, and the two finally resolved their differences. As a result, Han Yu Rong felt that Su Xing's nature was not bad, and if he was willing to come back, it would not be a bad idea to give him another chance.
In fact, Tong Jiang Nan had always had a high opinion of Su Xing as a student, and knew that his daughter had been secretly meeting with Su Xing. Rather than constantly obstructing them, Tong Jiang Nan decided to let Su Xing stay close, at least to put his mind at ease. Although Tong Jiang Nan trusted Zhang Shao Mu more, tonight's reconciliation was a significant step for Su Xing in regaining the Tong family's trust.
Zhou Ya Ming and the others could understand Tong Jiang Nan's reasoning. Since Zhang Shao Mu was secretly posing as a student near Tong Jiang Nan, Su Xing could also do the same, effectively protecting his safety. Later, Tong Sheng went to the police station again to verify with Cha Liang Jie, confirming that everything Su Xing had told her was entirely true.
Tong Jiang Nan led the school's teachers and students to demonstrate at the Governor's Office, pleading with the Governor to uphold justice, and even threatened to use experimental data as leverage. The Governor, mindful that Zhang Shao Mu was Tong Jiang Nan's student and assistant, as well as one of the experiment's supervisors, had to agree to Tong Jiang Nan's demand to release the person in order to ensure the experiment's progress would not be delayed.
English Hua summoned Li Wen Bo to the office, first praising him for his diligent investigation, and proposed holding a celebration for him. Immediately afterwards, he demanded that Li Wen Bo release Zhang Shao Mu immediately. Although Li Wen Bo was very unwilling, given that it was the Governor's order, he had no choice but to have Cha Liang Jie go to the prison to retrieve the person. Cha Liang Jie was filled with fury, warning Zhang Shao Jie that if he wanted to keep his wrongdoings hidden, he'd better not do anything reckless, as his crimes would eventually be exposed.
Lin Shi Man confirmed that English Hua had released the person, and then agreed to meet him for a date. English Hua was disappointed to learn that Lin Shi Man was not singing at the nightclub, and invited her to the hotel tonight, to which Lin Shi Man had no choice but to agree. The Tong family waited outside the police station for Zhang Shao Mu to be released, while Ahui observed nearby, and only felt relieved when he saw the three of them leave in a car.
In contrast, Su Xing and the others received the news immediately and were concerned that Tong Jiang Nan might be exploited by Zhang Shao Mu, so they had to come up with a new plan. Tong Jiang Nan took Zhang Shao Mu home and revealed that he had publicly announced the experimental data was stolen and needed to be re-experimented, which was just a ploy to buy time. As long as Zhang Shao Mu could quickly find a way to leave Hong Kong, the Hong Kong-British government would never obtain the core information.
