Episode 35 recap: Qing Er committed suicide, devastating her sister Rong Er.
Qing Er was captured by Yu De Fu's men. Yu De Fu questioned her, originally intending to capture both Li Qi and Rong Er, but now they had both escaped. He asked if Qing Er had done this on purpose. Qing Er said she truly wanted to help, but unexpectedly the police had arrived.Li Qi had been unable to find a job and had to pull a rickshaw to support the family. Li Qi went to see Rong Er, and Rong Er asked when the emperor would capture Yu De Fu. Li Qi said he had visited the emperor, but the emperor was no longer at the palace, and no one knew where he had gone, though the emperor was safe. Li Qi advised Rong Er to stay indoors as much as possible, and said he would visit her every day.
Yu De Fu gave Qing Er a packet of poison and told her to poison Rong Er. If she refused, he would make her drink it herself. Qing Er ultimately agreed to poison Rong Er. Qing Er told the Empress Dowager that her father was unwell, and she wanted to go home to visit him. The Empress Dowager said Qing Er could go home to care for her father, and she need not return, as the Empress Dowager would live in seclusion at the palace.
Rong Er, knowing Qing Er's father was ill, told Qing Er to live happily going forward, and not to return. Rong Er gave Qing Er the money she had saved and a hairpin her mother had gifted her. Qing Er said she wanted to have one more meal with Rong Er before leaving, and Rong Er happily cooked for her. Qing Er took the opportunity to poison the soup.
During the meal, Qing Er asked Rong Er if she remembered their early days in the palace. Rong Er expressed deep gratitude, feeling she had caused Qing Er much suffering. Qing Er said they were sisters and no repayment was needed. Rong Er asked what Qing Er planned to do, and Qing Er said she would use the money to open a shop for her father and send her siblings to school. Rong Er asked about Qing Er's own plans, and Qing Er said she would be content if her family was happy. Qing Er then drank the poisoned soup. When Rong Er tried to get a doctor, Qing Er stopped her, confessing she had intended to harm Rong Er and Li Qi, and that the current Qing Er had to die for the old Qing Er to return. Qing Er died, leaving Rong Er devastated.
Meanwhile, the treasures Yu De Fu had purchased remained with him, as the shipping date had been repeatedly delayed, and Yu De Fu pressed the seller to quickly remove the goods, since he had already paid the deposit.
Li Qi went to visit Rong Er and told her that he would catch Yu De Fu to avenge Qing Er. Lu Qiu Tong had been searching for a long time but couldn't find Yu De Fu's residence. Li Qi said there might be someone who knows the location, and he was preparing to go to the Yan Chi Restaurant to ask around. Liu Er wanted to go himself, but Li Qi arranged for him to stay and take good care of Rong Er. Lu Qiu Tong persuaded him that the most important thing right now is to protect Rong Er's safety.
Wu Tian went to the Yan Chi Restaurant to visit the eunuchs who had left the palace, and brought them some food. The Chief Eunuch was very grateful and asked if there was anything he could do to help.
