Episode 18 recap: Xu Meng Xin gave birth to a girl prematurely.
Xu Meng An accompanied her sister home, and they discussed the recent events. Xu Meng Xin had mixed feelings about having a second child. At first, she didn't want another child, and her sister had supported her. But seeing their father collapse and having many family members help care for him made Xu Meng Xin change her mind - she suddenly felt that having two children might be good, as there would be someone to discuss things with when issues arose.
Yu Chen has been making time to spend with Chen Wan Zhen's two children lately. Whenever he thinks of Chen Wan Zhen's smile, he feels fulfilled, and doesn't mind at all that she is a single mother. Xu Meng Xin started trying to persuade her sister not to worry too much about the recent events at home, because Li Lin and the elder Jia are there to help care for their father after Xu Meng Xin's confinement.
Xu Meng An has come to accept the situation. The doctor had diagnosed her with threatened miscarriage the previous night, and whether the pregnancy can be saved is now a matter of fate. The sisters were discussing back and forth when Xu Meng Xin suddenly felt something was off - it seemed like her baby was going to arrive early. Xu Meng An quickly called the emergency hotline, and Xu Meng Xin was rushed to the hospital. The fetal heartbeat was becoming weak, and since it was a preterm birth, the doctors said it was dangerous to delay delivery. They presented Xu Meng Xin's family with the papers for a C-section. Hearing Xu Meng Xin's cries from the ward, the elder Jia hesitated to sign the papers, but Xu Meng An urged Jia Hao Wen not to listen to Xu Meng An, or else it could be too late and they could lose both.
Xu Meng Xin was quickly wheeled into the operating room, and the cold surgical instruments were laid out. Xu Meng An and Jia Hao Wen waited anxiously outside the ward. Finally, the C-section was completed. The premature baby was very weak and placed in an incubator. Jia Hao Wen sat by his wife's bedside, heartbroken to see her go through such suffering.
Xu Meng Xin's mother was heartbroken seeing her daughter unconscious, and she kept wiping away tears. From outside the ward, Xu Meng Xin's mother-in-law's excited voice could be heard - she was handing out celebratory eggs and candies to all the nearby nurses, her joyful voice quite grating. This difference between the mother-in-law and the mother was palpable. Xu Meng An comforted her mother, explaining that the new addition to the elder Jia's family was indeed a joyous occasion.
After work, Xu Meng An saw Li Lin sitting by her father's bedside. She told the man that she was determined to carry her second child to term, because it seemed there was no difficulty her father could not overcome, and in fact, his first words upon waking were words of encouragement for her to have the baby. She was resolved to take good care of the fetus.
Hearing this, Li Lin was deeply moved. He had wavered and compromised with reality many times, but in the end, family bonds had triumphed over rationality. When Cloud saw the premature baby in the incubator, with its delicate, rosy skin, her heart almost melted. She couldn't help but imagine her own mother giving birth to such a precious little one, and she couldn't resist urging her mother to keep this baby.
Xu Meng An's elder sister also heard about the plan for a second child. With her brother-in-law's father being ill, and so much going on in the family, she proactively visited and insisted on staying, both to help care for her sick father-in-law and to assist Xu Meng An in nurturing the pregnancy. Xu Meng An knew her elder sister well - when Xu Meng An was pregnant with Cloud, her sister had forced her to drink very bitter Chinese medicine for months. Now she had brought another large bag of herbs, intent on supervising Xu Meng An's daily consumption.
