Episode 1 recap: Chen Yan Xi portrays Deng Li Jun's pursuit of her dreams.
In the banquet hall in Taipei in 1995, it is Deng Li Jun's mother's birthday today. Although she cannot be there in person, Deng Li Jun specially calls to wish her mother a happy birthday. She also tells her mother that she may be busy for a few more days before she can return. Her mother tells her that even though she is alone, she must still take good care of herself. Chief Wang also comes specially to wish Deng Li Jun's (played by Chen Yan Xi) mother a happy birthday. Everyone hopes that Deng Li Jun can return soon to hold a concert, as her fame has indeed become quite great.
Deng Li Jun and her boyfriend are eating longevity noodles at a restaurant, as it was a family tradition that whenever there was a birthday, the whole family would eat longevity noodles. The restaurant owner even comes over to take a photo for them. A man arrives at Deng Li Jun's mother's birthday party, actually hoping that Deng Li Jun can return. He then finds Deng Li Jun's third brother to help call her, as the two of them used to be a couple. He tells Deng Li Jun that if she is happy now, just say hello.
Deng Li Jun takes a long time to respond, only saying hello much later. When the man hangs up the phone, he is in tears. Deng Li Jun also avoids discussing what her boyfriend said. Deng Li Jun's mother likes to add a little salt to the water when she waters her flowers. She has specially bought her daughter's favorite pink roses, hoping they will be in full bloom when her daughter returns.
However, when Deng Li Jun's boyfriend goes out to record a tape, Deng Li Jun suddenly has an asthma attack. She quickly tries to take her medicine, but the bottle is empty. She summons her last bit of strength to crawl to the door, where the cleaning lady sees her and promptly takes her to the hospital.
On the other side, the mother feels that something has happened to her daughter, so she hurriedly calls her, but no one answers on the other end. Deng Li Jun's brother Deng Zhang Fu receives a call from a hospital in Thailand. Suppressing his emotions, he quickly calls the family's housekeeper and has her unplug the home telephone and television lines.
The news of Deng Li Jun's passing has already spread throughout Taiwan. Everyone is shocked that Deng Li Jun suddenly developed fatal asthma, even the fans in Thailand are deeply saddened and cannot accept this reality. Deng Li Jun's mother does not understand what has happened, only suddenly noticing many reporters outside her door. When she tries to turn on the TV, she finds it will not turn on.
At this moment, Deng Zhang Fu returns home, weaving through the reporters. As the mother is still trying to watch TV, which remains black, Deng Zhang Fu finally cannot hold back his tears, at first thinking it was just a marital quarrel.
Deng Zhang Fu knelt in front of his mother and told her that his sister Deng Li Jun had passed away. It took the mother a long time to regain her senses, but she insisted on bringing her daughter back. The four brothers held a funeral for their sister, and Deng Li Jun's mother personally went to find her daughter's boyfriend. Five years later, Deng Li Jun would often sit on her father's feet and listen to the adults singing. Everyone liked to stay and have meals at their house.
