Episode 1 recap: Qin Da Di tests the J-15 aircraft.
The story begins in 1965, when three aircraft carriers were sailing at sea. Foreign forces were about to enter Chinese territorial waters and airspace. The commander of the foreign aircraft carrier fleet and the flight command officer had everything ready, and they told the pilots to take off immediately. At a naval base in the south, the Chinese military discovered enemy aircraft in their airspace. Colonel Yu Zhao-nian and Wu Jing-tian of the 101st Naval Regiment received orders and took off to engage the enemy aircraft. The enemy suddenly appeared, and they made eye contact. They soon realized that the intruder was James. Their weapons were clearly outdated compared to the enemy, who had air-to-air missiles. After the enemy locked onto them, they fired missiles, and a violent explosion occurred in the sky.
In the 1980s, Yu Zhao-nian's grandson Yu Tao was born. This time, they were invited to meet James. 24 years had passed, and the former enemies had become friends. James personally brought gifts for Yu Tao, and Yu Tao presented flowers to James.
As the host, Yu Zhao-nian welcomed James, and James said he wanted to reconnect with the veteran warrior Yu Zhao-nian after all these years. China's naval development was still lacking back then, and the other country thought they could easily strike China, but their aircraft were all attacked.
They proposed launching two more aircraft, and James was ready. Upon learning of the enemy's reappearance, Yu Zhao-nian and Wu Jing-tian rushed to respond. The enemy kept firing at them, and they had to dodge missiles and fly through layers of clouds. During the evasion, one of their planes was accidentally hit. Seeing the imminent destruction, Wu Jing-tian quickly ejected.
Yu Zhao-nian made the desperate decision to charge towards the enemy along with James' aircraft. At the last moment, James became afraid and abandoned his plane, using a parachute to escape. On his way back, Yu Tao noticed his grandfather's unhappiness. Yu Zhao-nian, looking at the model of the aircraft carrier, realized that China still did not have its own aircraft carrier and was being bullied. His greatest wish was for China to have its own aircraft carrier.
The story moves to 2011, when China had its own aircraft carrier. At a certain air force base in 2009, Senior Pilot Wu Qiang and Squadron Leader Qin Da Di (played by Hou Yong) were checking the various conditions of the aircraft, ensuring everything was in order before the flight. This was their J-15 fighter, which was undoubtedly very beautiful.
After Wu Qiang and Qin Dadi changed into their flight suits, they arrived at the test flight site, ready to take to the air. The engineers at the unit were extremely excited, as this was their first test flight. Once everything was prepared, Qin Dadi and Wu Jingotian took to the skies in the aircraft. Qin Dadi's maneuvers were quite dangerous, as he was trying to test the plane's performance capabilities. The engineers were impressed with Qin Dadi's exceptional piloting skills, as he executed the most difficult techniques, making everyone hold their breath, since this was the J-15's maiden flight. Fortunately, everything went smoothly.
Originally, Qin Daihai wanted to retire, but now with the new test pilot arriving soon, they still needed Qin Dadi, who found it difficult to refuse. As the overall commander of the aircraft carrier trials, Yi Zhengbang went to the suburbs and detonated explosives to blast open a mountain road, paving the way for the aircraft's runway.
Yi Zhengbang was satisfied with the results. He and his team went up the mountain, with Zhang Yitian briefing him, as they entered the final preparations for aircraft carrier operations. Yi Zhengbang looked at the ground and had his subordinates reserve a section for him.
Qin Daihai and his wife were sleeping when their disabled son rang the bell, needing to use the restroom. Qin Daihai had to carry him and put him in the wheelchair to accompany him.
Qin Daihai and his wife both had busy schedules. His wife wanted him to stay home and take care of their child for a day, as she had to meet with her advisor the next day. However, Qin Dadi said he had important matters with the team and could not leave. The wife had been wanting Qin Dadi to transfer jobs, as his skills were top-notch and the other offer would provide a higher salary, improving their family's standard of living.
During the exercises, Xie Zhenyu encountered aircraft from another country that were approaching our airspace. Xie Zhenyu was about to overtake them, but the command center kept urging him not to cross the border no matter what.
