Episode 27 recap: Xia Chu and Liu Ni Na applied to join the female soldier detachment on the aircraft carrier.
As this was China's first aircraft carrier, the selection process for female soldiers was especially strict, and the large number of applicants added significant pressure on Xia Chu. Xia Chu told Liu Ni Na that she planned to apply to join, and Liu Ni Na also expressed a desire to go with her. Xie Zhen Yu thought Xia Chu could easily remain at the base, and questioned why she felt the need to go on the big ship. Xia Chu replied that she wanted to witness this historic moment just as he did.
Although Xia Chu and Liu Ni Na would no longer be providing psychological support to Xie Zhen Yu and Kang Yan Cheng, the two men respected their choices, despite some reluctance. Yí Zhèngbāng came to the test flight base, wanting to see how extraordinary the "excellent" pilots really were.
However, during the test flights, an unexpected accident occurred, catching everyone off guard. Director Liu noticed Xia Chu's thoughts and specifically reminded her that if she joined the carrier, she would not be permitted to have a romantic relationship with the pilots, as it would violate regulations. Nevertheless, Xia Chu decided to apply for the female soldier detachment, as she was inspired by the pilots' unwavering dedication to the country's aircraft carrier program, even to the point of writing their wills before each test flight mission.
In order to obtain Director Liu's approval, Xia Chu agreed to relinquish her role in providing psychological support to Xie Zhen Yu. Upon returning to the dormitory, Xia Chu confessed to Liu Ni Na that she had feelings for Xie Zhen Yu, but understood that joining the carrier would mean they could not be together for at least three years.
Director Liu subsequently recommended Xia Chu and Liu Ni Na to Yí Zhèngbāng, noting that Xia Chu was one of the few top-level psychological counselors in the country, with extensive clinical experience and a self-developed support system for pilots. He also revealed that Xia Chu had even broken off her engagement to dedicate herself to this opportunity. Ultimately, Yí Zhèngbāng approved their applications, and suggested that Xia Chu could apply for a leadership position among the female soldiers on the carrier.
Yu Zhao Nian's mother came to the hospital early in the morning to visit Yu Tao's father, and in the process found out about her son's participation in the flight test team. Yu Zhao Nian reminded the mother not to let Yu Tao know that she had found out, as Yu Tao and the naval aircraft test were at a critical stage, and they needed the full support of the family in order for him to get through this hurdle.
Soon the May 1st holiday ended, and everyone returned to the flight test team base. Kang Yan Cheng was overjoyed to see the message Liu Ni Na had written to him, while Yu Tao would occasionally look at his wife's pregnancy report, feeling a surge of strength. The next day, the flight test team members plunged back into their training. Qin Da Di said that before the Harrier flight, they all had to undergo psychological medical tests, and only successful completion would allow them to conduct the test flight.
Fortunately, each team member was full of enthusiasm, with no distractions. Xia Chu believed they were now in the best state, indicating that the vacation had been very effective. Qin Da Di and Tao Si Yong went to find Yi Zheng Bang to apply for the first landing, and Tao Si Yong surprisingly agreed with the idea, even identifying a potential successor as team leader - Yu Tao first, then Xie Zhen Yu.
Yi Zheng Bang listened to the two and agreed to let Qin Da Di execute the first Harrier high-speed landing, but stipulated that if the test was successful, the task would then be handed over to others. Upon learning this, Yu Tao and Xie Zhen Yu went to find Qin Da Di, hoping to compete with him, with only the winner allowed to do the first landing.
Seeing the two were determined not to change their minds, Qin Da Di reluctantly agreed. He then called Yi Zheng Bang to explain the situation, but Yi Zheng Bang directly rejected it and emphasized that soldiers must obey orders. Although the two were unwilling, Yu Tao still pulled Xie Zhen Yu back to the dormitory.
On the eve of the test flight, Qin Da Di personally wrote a letter, and the medical team came to remind him to return quickly for medical supervision. Qin Da Di took the letter to find Tao Si Yong, realizing that this time Tao Si Yong had not come to find him, which showed his progress, but also made Qin Da Di feel a bit uneasy.
Qin Da Di handed the written letter to Tao Si Yong, asking him to pass it on to his wife and children, and casually comforted Tao Si Yong before heading back to the room for special care.
