Episode 1 recap: Three years have passed since Xie Yun fled the Yin household.

The story begins at the Lian Xiang Pavilion in Bai Yu City, where everyone in the audience is watching the performance on stage. Today is the wedding day of the Garrison Chief Yin Ji (played by Cheng Yu Feng), and at this moment he is pinning down Xie Yun (played by Xu Zhen Zhen), the woman he once loved, and shamelessly violating her.

Tears are welling up in Xie Yun's eyes, and Yin Ji even makes her recount every detail of their wedding night. Just then, Yin Ji's wife, a woman named Xiao Bao Bao, arrives and starts searching each room with a hairpin in hand. When she bursts in, she only finds Yin Ji sitting on the bed alone. Their marriage was originally just an arrangement, without any real love between them.

Xie Yun walks alone on the street, and Yin Ji has someone bring her clothes to wear as it is snowing heavily. Yin Ji suggests she take the same carriage back with a group of rabbits, but Xie Yun knows tomorrow is the day she is to leave the Yin household, and she does not want to be under Yin Ji's control any longer.

Four years ago, Yin Ji and Xie Yun were once a pair of long-term lovers, but somehow everything changed overnight. Xie Yun was accused of having an affair with Yin Qi, and was said to have malicious intentions. The head of the Xie family committed suicide in atonement, and the rest of the family was exiled to the borders, with Xie Yun and her mother constantly in exile.

One day, Yin Ji suddenly appeared and asked about the whereabouts of Xie Yun's mother and brother, but he did not answer. Yin Ji kept Xie Yun by his side as a servant for three years, saying he would release her after that time. To see her family again as soon as possible, Xie Yun had no choice but to acquiesce.

The next day, Xiao Bao Bao threw a fit at home, convinced that the person Yin Ji visited the previous night was Xie Yun. She felt that even though Xie Yun's father had died in atonement, she was now using her status to seduce Yin Ji, and Xiao Bao Bao was determined to make Xie Yun pay for it.

That night, Xie Yun had another nightmare. Her maid came to tell her that finally, the day had come - she could leave this place.

From the beginning, Xie Yun had been carefully marking each day on her bedpost, hoping time would pass quickly. Before leaving, she gave her maid a sentimental token, asking her to exchange it for some money, though the item had lost its importance to her now.

Just as Xie Yun was about to leave, Xiao Bao Bao summoned her. Xie Yun said that from today on, she was no longer a maid in the household, so she need not kneel. Throughout these three years, Xiao Bao Bao had bullied Xie Yun, but now, knowing this was her last day, Xie Yun spoke more assertively.

Xiao Bao Bao deliberately provoked Xie Yun by mentioning her family, and Xie Yun became furious, ready to slap her. But Yin Ji grabbed Xie Yun's hand, and she ended up slapping Xiao Bao Bao instead. Yin Ji took out a bracelet and angrily questioned Xie Yun about it, then simply threw it to the ground since she didn't want it.

He then hung a token around Xie Yun's neck, only giving her time to leave through the city gates. If she failed to depart, she would never be allowed to go. Xiao Bao Bao aimed her bow and arrow at Xie Yun, with Yin Ji assisting her. They first shot Xie Yun's arm, then her hairpin on the ground. Xie Yun desperately ran towards the gate - this might be her only chance to escape.
