Episode 8 recap: Xie Yun woke up to find that she had lost her memory.
Xie Yun struggled to endure the pain as she tore away the dried grass, tears uncontrollably streaming down her face. She saw her mother's clothing and the ring she had once given her mother, and realized her mother must have been killed. On the other side lay the clothes of her brother and father, and Xie Yun was devastated to discover her entire family had perished. With no one left, she felt she had no reason to live.
She made her way alone to the mountaintop, her hands already covered in blood, and leapt off. Meanwhile, Yin Ji was searching everywhere for Xie Yun. After searching the city all night, it was clear Xie Yun had left. Yin Ji knew Xie Yun was desperate to escape him, and doubted she would return, but continued sending people to look for her.
Eventually, someone came back reporting they had found Xie Yun, her head drenched in blood. Alarmed, Yin Ji quickly carried her back to be treated. Xie Yun's injuries were not severe, but the doctor said her head trauma was serious and her recovery uncertain.
Yin Ji remained by Xie Yun's side, and with his attentive care, her condition began to improve. The doctor said she would likely wake up soon. When Xie Yun did regain consciousness, Yin Ji was overjoyed, though he tried to maintain a aloof demeanor.
To his surprise, Xie Yun slapped him, and called him by his old name. It seemed Xie Yun had lost her memory - at first Yin Ji thought it was a trick, but Xie Yun's strange behavior indicated otherwise.
Yin Ji grabbed Xie Yun by the neck, but to his surprise, she retaliated with a fierce beating.
Yin Ji was left in pain from the beating. Since Xie Yun claimed to have lost her memory, he decided to let her go wherever she wished. To test if her amnesia was genuine, Yin Ji prepared a dish that Xie Yun had hated the most over the past three years, but to his astonishment, she ate it with relish.
The butler also brought Xie Yun a bottle of wine to try. Xie Yun immediately recognized it as Lanling wine, but there was no flaw in how she drank it. It was clear that Xie Yun had truly forgotten the events of the past four years, no matter how hard she tried to recall them.
When Qi Yan learned that Xie Yun had regained consciousness, he rushed to embrace her, then handed her a token, telling her she could safely leave the manor. However, Xie Yun refused to go, saying everyone was acting strangely, and she simply threw the token to the ground. Qi Yan left, disappointed. Since Xie Yun did not want the token, it confirmed that her amnesia was genuine, but Yin Ji still refused to believe it. Qi Yan felt this could be an opportunity for Yin Ji and Xie Yun to start anew, and urged Yin Ji to cherish it.
Xie Yun had not seen Yin Ji for many days, and in her view, he no longer seemed suited to live here. She said her memories only went back to when they had just become engaged, when everything was still happy. But Yin Ji still would not believe her, and step-by-step, he pushed Xie Yun towards the river's edge. In the end, Xie Yun accidentally fell into the water.
Over the past four years, Xie Yun had learned to swim. Yin Ji had arranged this, wanting to see if she truly had lost her memory.
