Episode 2 recap: Yue Ling entered the palace to become a princess.
Zhou Shi Yu rescued Yue Ling from the water, and Yue Ling got angry about falling into the water. They went to a secret room to reconcile, and Zhou Shi Yu cooked fish but intentionally didn't give any to Yue Ling, making her salivate with hunger. Zhou Shi Yu examined his own jade pendant and wanted to see Yue Ling's as well, and when they placed the two pendants together, they formed a complete jade pendant.
Yue Ling's jade pendant was a gift from her mother, while Zhou Shi Yu's was a gift from a Taoist priest who had said the pendants would bring harmony to the world when combined. Yue Ling was worried about Xing Yi's injury and sat by the river sighing. When she saw Zhou Shi Yu, she brought him water but complained that he should hurry on his way after drinking it, which immediately saddened Zhou Shi Yu.
Zhou Shi Yu and Yue Ling traveled together to the capital city. Yue Ling was skilled at riding horses but poor at walking, and soon became exhausted, asking Zhou Shi Yu to carry her, which he had never done for anyone before but agreed to do seeing her fatigue.
Yue Ling promised to reward Zhou Shi Yu well in the future, and he felt she was adapting quickly to her role as a pretend princess. The sect leader had his subordinates search the forest for the missing princess, but they found nothing. Then they heard a noise in the forest and pulled the poisoned Xing Yi out, who was wearing armor from the Eastern Yu kingdom, prompting the sect leader to inquire about the Eastern Yu princess.
On the carriage ride to the capital, Zhou Shi Yu and Yue Ling saw the happy uncle driver, who claimed Eastern Yu and Northern Shuo were not at war, and was going to the capital to fetch his son. Yue Ling recalled that Zhou Shi Yu had asked her to pretend to be the Eastern Yu princess, which was actually to prevent the two kingdoms from going to war.
The sect leader saw that Xing Yi could not properly guide them, so he decided to abandon him on the road. The sect leader's subordinates were angry at being deceived, but the leader did not want them to fight, so he left Xing Yi behind. The sect leader was punished for the failed mission.
When Zhou Shi Yu and Yue Ling reached the rendezvous point, Yue Ling noticed that Xing Yi was not with them. Zhou Shi Yu's subordinate quietly reported that Xing Yi had become separated from the group. Zhou Shi Yu was concerned that their secret would be exposed, so he urged Yue Ling to quickly depart for the capital.
In the capital, Zhou Shi Yu reported to Emperor Zhou Chen Yu that he had lost the true princess. The emperor believed this person could bring the power of Eastern Yu, so he asked his uncle to obstruct them. Whether the girl was the princess or a maid did not matter to him. Zhou Shi Yu felt this person could bring stability between Northern Shuo and Eastern Yu, so the next day he arranged for the two of them to be married.
When Zhou Shi Yu returned to the palace, he found Yue Ling enjoying a delicious meal. He did not understand why she was eating so happily, so he took a bite himself, and they both ended up poisoned and seemingly died. Fortunately, they were able to be revived, and they immediately apprehended the poisoning maid.
Zhou Shi Yu and Yue Ling interrogated the maid, who stubbornly refused to reveal the truth. Yue Ling noticed the woman was vain about her appearance, so she used that as a way to break her. Eventually, they learned that the mastermind behind the poisoning was the Southern King.
