Episode 20 recap: The Prince of Zhennan, Gao Yuan, has returned to the capital
The commoners are puzzled as to why, but they have noticed that the generals stationed in various regions have all returned to the capital, leading them to speculate that the Northern Chuo will attack Dongyue In the royal court, the Emperor is hesitant about launching an attack on Dongyue, but the Prime Minister, Zhou Jing Yuan, believes that the small country of Dongyue is bullying the Northern Chuo and volunteers to lead the charge to vanquish Dongyue The Prince of Zhennan, Gao Yuan, tries to persuade the court officials, but his words carry little weight
Forced by Prime Minister Zhou Jing Yuan, the Emperor reluctantly issues the order to attack Dongyue, even going so far as to have the young princess of Dongyue raise the battle flag. The furious Emperor, unable to directly confront the Prime Minister, is relieved when Prince of the North, Zhou Shi Yu, arrives with a marriage proposal from the Khan of Dongyue. Seeing Dongyue's sincere gesture of sending tribute and a strong stallion, the Emperor immediately calls off the planned attack on Dongyue.
The Prime Minister is displeased, as the generals have already returned to the capital, but the Prince of the North argues that nothing has been finalized yet. The Emperor then asks the Prince of Zhennan, Gao Yuan, to personally see the generals off, rather than having the Prime Minister do it, as a gesture of appreciation for their efforts.
Yue Ling is overjoyed to see Xing Yi, who informs her that Prince Zhou Shi Yu only suffered minor injuries. Xing Yi also shares that Duer and A Shi Na Zhu have been safely returned to the Khan, and that A Shi Na Zhu is even pregnant. The Khan and A Shi Na Zhu have written letters to Yue Ling, and Xing Yi hurriedly departs, eager to find Su Nian. Gao Luo Yi is delighted to see Zhou Shi Yu, and invites him to the Prince of Zhennan's residence to enjoy some wine, but Zhou Shi Yu politely declines, his thoughts lingering on Yue Ling.
This scene was witnessed by the Prime Minister, who then ordered his subordinates to investigate why the assassination attempt had failed. That day, Zhou Shi Yu was attacked by an assassin, but in the crucial moment, Su Nian stepped forward to save everyone and conveyed the message that the Prince of the North had died. Zhou Shi Yu had long since discovered Su Nian's true identity, and Xing Yi also knew that she was from the Ruofeng Hall.
Yue Ling personally embroidered a sachet for Zhou Shi Yu, hoping that even when she was not by his side, the sachet could keep him company. When Zhou Shi Yu woke up, he saw Yue Ling exhausted and asleep, and he gently kissed her forehead. Zhou Shi Yu discussed court matters with the Emperor, who had long been feigning illness to maintain control over the court. Zhou Shi Yu analyzed that the key to the situation was the Prince of the South, and if he could be utilized by the Emperor, things would be much easier.
The Prime Minister decided to leave the capital city with his troops, and instructed his subordinates to closely monitor the Prince of the South, as he commanded a powerful army and might turn against the Emperor. Xing Yi did not know how to interact with Su Nian, as she was both an assassin and a savior. Xing Yi pushed open the door, only to find the Lady Mu instead of Su Nian.
Xing Yi found Lady Sang to inquire about Su Nian's whereabouts and learned that she had already returned to her hometown. The Prince of the South was willing to alleviate the Emperor's worries by eliminating the Prime Minister's faction, but he also made a request - the Princess had long admired the Prince of the North, and he hoped the Emperor would fulfill this wish. After leaving, the Prince of the South encountered his former lover, Lady Su Su. Though they were once lovers, they were now strangers. Lady Su Su still harbored feelings for the Prince, but he only wished for her happiness.
