Episode 7 recap: Xing Yi invited Su Nian to go to the grassland.

Zhou Shi Yu took Princess Yue Ling out for a stroll, and heard children singing nursery rhymes, learning that the Southern King and Northern King were both foolish and incompetent. Yue Ling let the children continue singing, and Zhou Shi Yu brought out some candied hawthorns to appease the children, getting them to change their tune to say one king was foolish and the other strong. Yue Ling saw Zhou Shi Yu's happiness at the children changing their song, and felt that Zhou Shi Yu was very loyal, but Zhou Shi Yu wanted to tell Yue Ling the truth, only to see the sugar figures run away.

Zhou Shi Yu bought the sugar figures and had them sent to the palace. The sugar seller, upon hearing it was for the Northern King, immediately claimed it was the palace of a benefactor, as during the past floods, they had only survived thanks to the medicines sent by the Northern King. Yue Ling realized there were conflicting accounts of whether the Northern King was good or bad, and didn't know who was telling the truth.

The Southern King had his servants paint some paintings, but the servants struggled to find words to praise them, as the paintings were truly poor, with one servant mistaking chrysanthemums for lotus flowers.

At this time, a guard reported that Princess Dongyu and the Northern King were out on the streets. The Southern King wanted to outdo the Northern King, and decided to dress up nicely.

Xing Yi apologized to Su Nian for the previous misunderstanding, and Su Nian invited him to drink. After a few rounds, Xing Yi started seeing Su Nian as a friend, and invited him to the grasslands, accidentally revealing his identity as a prince, and even mocking that Yue Ling would not marry the Northern King, as she had leverage over him.

The Southern King tried to show off on the streets, but an elderly woman found him obstructive and scolded him harshly, leaving the Southern King wishing he could disappear. The Southern King saw the Northern King and Yue Ling dining together, mocking the Northern King's simple dishes, so the Northern King, fearing his identity would be exposed, left with Yue Ling to release some lanterns.

Zhou Shi Yu and Yue Ling went to the riverbank to release lanterns and make wishes. Yue Ling wished to return to Dongyu soon, when the Southern King arrived carrying a large lantern, intent on interfering. Zhou Shi Yu saw it was getting late and wanted to take Yue Ling back, hoping to finally reveal his identity, but was interrupted by the excited Yue Ling.

The Southern King scolded Zhou Shi Yu and Yue Ling for meeting before marriage, and Yue Ling was convinced Zhou Shi Yu was just a young servant. When the Southern King called out to Zhou Shi Yu as the Northern King, a group of assassins suddenly rushed out, and Yue Ling once again narrowly missed the truth.

The guards rushed out to protect the Northern King, and the Southern King was struck by a sword. The guards then turned and addressed Zhou Shi Yu as the Northern King, but before Yue Ling could ask about it, they were both struck by incoming arrows and fell, only to revive shortly after.

Zhou Shi Yu and Yue Ling released the lanterns together, and Yue Ling was angry that Zhou Shi Yu had hidden his identity. At that moment, the Southern King interfered again, and the Northern King warned him to find his guards quickly, as someone was trying to assassinate him.

Zhou Shi Yu explained that he had invited Yue Ling out to reveal his identity, but Yue Ling was angry that he had hidden it, feeling her status was not worthy of a noble prince.
