Episode 1 recap: The Seven Freaks of Jiangnan went to the Great Desert to take on disciples.
The historian Tuo Ling taught Guo Jing, who was still young, but Guo Jing stood up to them and was scolded along with them. At the same time, the Seven Freaks of Jiangnan came to this place and, seeing the dagger in Guo Jing's hand, recognized him as the child of Guo Xiaotan and Li Ping, and took Guo Jing as their disciple. That year, the notorious Black Whirlwind killers Mei Chaofeng and Chen Xuanfeng also came to the Great Desert to pursue the Seven Freaks of Jiangnan. In the fierce battle, Guo Jing was captured by Chen Xuanfeng, but also accidentally wounded Chen Xuanfeng's vital point, causing Chen Xuanfeng's tragic death. Mei Chaofeng then fled while blinded, and Zhang Asheng, one of the Five Freaks of Jiangnan, also died in this battle.
After the battle, Guo Jing followed the six masters to train in martial arts. Although Guo Jing was naturally dull-witted, the Seven Freaks of Jiangnan did not give up carefully teaching him due to a bet. As the years went by, Guo Jing gradually grew up through daily practice, and the time for the martial arts competition was approaching. Guo Jing also learned from his masters that he would go to Jiangnan at the age of eighteen to compete with his sworn brother Yang Kang.
Although Guo Jing had been practicing hard, his progress was slow. Ma Yu of the Quanzhen School noticed that there were problems with the Seven Freaks' teaching of Guo Jing, causing him to learn the techniques but not the essence. Ma Yu proactively taught Guo Jing a set of mental techniques, after which Guo Jing's martial arts progressed greatly. The Seven Freaks noticed this anomaly and tracked Guo Jing, accidentally discovering the trace of Mei Chaofeng, misunderstanding that Guo Jing was following the female villain Mei Chaofeng to learn martial arts.
The Seven Freaks found Mei Chaofeng to avenge Zhang Asheng, and the six of them surrounded and attacked Mei Chaofeng. But by then, Mei Chaofeng's Nine Yin White Bone Claw had reached its peak, and the six were no match for her. Guo Jing came out to help, but was misunderstood by his second master. Ma Yu of the Quanzhen School then appeared and explained that the mental techniques he taught Guo Jing were his own, allowing the Seven Freaks to spare Guo Jing.
Working together, they fought Mei Chaofeng. Guo Jing seized the opportunity to injure Mei Chaofeng with his dagger, causing her to flee in defeat.
The Seven Freaks of Jiangnan told Guo Jing to meet them at the Intoxicating Immortal Restaurant in Jiaxing at noon on the 24th of the third month. The Seven Freaks noticed that Mei Chaofeng was still in the Great Desert, and planned to deal with her before going to Jiangnan to find Guo Jing.
Guo Jing bid farewell to his masters and went to Jiangnan alone. Disguised as a beggar, Huang Rong was being harassed by a shop assistant on the street. Guo Jing stepped in and paid the shop's debt, then invited Huang Rong to dine with him. Seeing Guo Jing pay, Huang Rong ordered a delicious feast. After the meal, Guo Jing saw that Huang Rong's clothes were thin, so he gave her his mink coat and some travel money, telling her not to steal buns to fill her stomach in the future.
Guo Jing learned that Huang Rong had run away from home in a fit of anger with her father. He advised her to quickly return home, saying her father was likely worried for her safety. Huang Rong, moved by Guo Jing's kindness, decided to go home instead of continuing to be angry with her father. She then asked Guo Jing for his horse, and Guo Jing readily agreed. Touched by Guo Jing's generosity, Huang Rong rode the horse away joyfully.
Mu Ying had brought his daughter Mu Nianci to a martial arts competition to find her a husband. The Mongol prince Wanyan Kang happened to pass by and impulsively joined the competition. After a fierce battle, Mu Nianci was defeated by Wanyan Kang, but Wanyan Kang had no intention of marrying her. However, he insisted on taking Mu Nianci's shoes, which made Mu Ying believe Wanyan Kang was just toying with them. Enraged, Mu Ying attacked Wanyan Kang and was injured in the process.
