Episode 2 recap: Guo Jing and Huang Rong broke into the prince's mansion in the dead of night.
Seeing that the Prince Huang Rong was about to renege on his promise, Guo Jing, who was watching from the sidelines, could not bear to see it and reminded Prince Huang Rong that his behavior was inappropriate and that he should marry Mu Nian Ci as agreed. But the capricious Prince Huang Rong disliked Guo Jing's interference and decided to teach him a lesson. In the ensuing scuffle, Guo Jing proved no match for Prince Huang Rong and was injured.
The injured Guo Jing stubbornly refused to let Prince Huang Rong leave, and the two engaged in another round of combat. Just as Guo Jing was about to be defeated again, Wang Chongyang, one of the Seven Masters of Quanzhen, intervened to assist Guo Jing. This prompted Prince Huang Rong's men to attack Wang Chongyang. At the critical moment, the Princess arrived, and Wang Chongyang hurriedly took the injured Guo Jing away.
Mu Yi accidentally overheard the Princess's voice, which sounded eerily familiar to him. Eighteen years ago, Mu Yi and his sworn brother Guo Xiaotian had gone hunting and met Qiu Chuji, who had given their children, Guo Jing and Yang Kang, names and presented them with short swords to cement the friendship between the Guo and Yang families.
Duan Tiande had been ordered to capture Guo Xiaotian and Yang Tiexin. Seeing no safe way to escape, Guo Xiaotian decided to stay behind and let Yang Tiexin quickly flee with his wife and child. Guo Xiaotian was eventually killed by the soldiers, and Yang Tiexin, while trying to rescue Guo Xiaotian's wife, was shot and fell off a cliff.
Wang Chongyang, whose body was poisoned by the Sha palm strike, asked Guo Jing to take him to an inn to rest and recover. But on the way, they were intercepted by the Four Demons of the Yellow River. Huang Rong appeared to help Guo Jing fend them off, then instructed Guo Jing to take Wang Chongyang to the inn first while she stayed behind to deal with the Four Demons.
At the inn, Wang Chongyang used the facilities to detoxify himself. Though his life was not in immediate danger, the internal poison had not been fully purged, and if it was not expelled within 12 hours, he would be left with permanent disabilities. Guo Jing hurried to gather the necessary medicinal herbs, only to find that they were all out of stock in the city - a scheme orchestrated by the prince's mansion.
Wang Chuyi learned from Ma Yu earlier that Guo Jing was a courageous and righteous hero, and he was now willing to die to save Guo Jing. At this time, Guo Jing received a letter from Huang Rong asking to meet, and he was convinced that Huang Rong had a way to find the needed medicinal ingredients, so he decided to go seek Huang Rong's help. Wang Chuyi hinted to Guo Jing that Huang Rong's identity was unusual, but Guo Jing believed that Huang Rong would not harm him.
When Guo Jing arrived at the appointed meeting place, he was delighted to see the Four Ghosts of the Yellow River being captured. But then, following the sound of "Elder Brother Jing," he was surprised to see a young woman appear, who turned out to be Huang Rong. Guo Jing was urgently seeking a remedy for Wang Chuyi's condition, and Huang Rong reassured the anxious Guo Jing, promising to help him obtain the remedy that day.
Although the pastries Guo Jing had specially brought for Huang Rong were already broken, Huang Rong appreciated Guo Jing's kind gesture and cherished the pastries. Huang Rong said that the needed medicinal ingredients had been taken by people from the Prince of Zhao's mansion, so they should go there to find them. Guo Jing was worried that Huang Rong might get into danger, but after her persuasion, he agreed to go with her.
At the Prince of Zhao's mansion, Guo Jing and Huang Rong discovered that Wanyan Kang had imprisoned Mu Nianci and her father. Wanyan Kang told Mu Yi that as the son of a nobleman, he could not let others know he had become in-laws with a commoner hero, so he had imprisoned the Mu family, hoping they would stay there for a few days before returning to their hometown. In a couple of years, he would go to their residence to arrange the marriage. Mu Yi did not believe Wanyan Kang's smooth talk and wanted to discuss the matter with the Princess, but Wanyan Kang firmly rejected this.
