Episode 5 recap: Guo Jing and Huang Rong Declare Their Love
Guo Jing arrived here with Wang Chu Yi, and as Yang Tie Xin was on his deathbed, he entrusted his adopted daughter Mu Nian Ci to Guo Jing. Eighteen years later, the couple reunited and although they ultimately died together, it was a death without regret for Yang Tie Xin and Bao Xi Ruo.Mu Nian Ci, at the suggestion of Yang Kang, kidnapped Yang Kang and forced Liang Zi Weng and others to produce the antidote to the poison that had afflicted Qiu Chu Ji, successfully saving him. Late at night, Yang Kang came to pay respects to his mother Bao Xi Ruo, but Qiu Chu Ji felt that Yang Kang, who had claimed a false paternity, had no face to offer incense for the Yang couple. Seeing Yang Kang insist on offering incense, Qiu Chu Ji grew angry and wanted to kill Yang Kang, but Guo Jing intervened, and out of respect for Yang Kang being Yang Tie Xin's only blood descendant, Qiu Chu Ji spared his life.
Yang Kang had been known as Complete Calmness for eighteen years, and no one had ever told him of his true origins. He was deeply saddened by this, and could not accept the change in his identity. Mu Nian Ci, concerned about leaving Yang Kang, caught up to him, though she did not persuade him, she knew that his parents had hoped he would live well.
Qiu Chu Ji had originally intended to fulfill Yang Tie Xin's dying wish and have Guo Jing and Mu Nian Ci marry, but Guo Jing was unwilling to fulfill the betrothal. Ke Zhen E revealed that Guo Jing had already been made the Golden Saber Son-in-law by Genghis Khan in the desert, but Guo Jing was unwilling to marry either Mu Nian Ci or the Princess of Huazheng, as he openly admitted his affection for Huang Rong.
However, the Seven Heroes of the South learned that Huang Rong was the daughter of the Evil Emperor, and forced Guo Jing to swear never to see Huang Rong again. But Guo Jing could not comply with his masters' demand, and at that moment Huang Rong arrived. Caught between his masters and Huang Rong, Guo Jing was at a loss, until Huang Rong simply took him and rode off on a horse.
Huang Rong asked Guo Jing why he was unwilling to marry Mu Nian Ci or the Princess of Huazheng, and Guo Jing openly confessed that he only wanted to be with Huang Rong, and could not accommodate anyone else in his heart. Hearing Guo Jing's declaration of love, the delighted Huang Rong also confessed that she only loved Guo Jing.
Guo Jing hoped to bring Huang Rong to seek his masters' approval for their marriage, and he also planned to explain the situation to Mu Nian Ci and go to the desert to dissolve his betrothal to the Princess of Huazheng.
Guo Jing, accompanied by Huang Rong, returned to the small courtyard but did not find his masters there. He could only wait until they gathered at the Drunk Immortal Pavilion half a year later to plead with them.
Eighteen years ago, Qiu Chuji learned that the Yang Tie Xin and Guo Xiao Tian families had been besieged by Duan Tiande. He later discovered that Guo Xiao Tian's wife was being hidden by Duan Tiande at the Fahui Temple, so he went to the temple to search for Guo Xiao Tian's widow, only to be intercepted by the Seven Freaks of the South.
Qiu Chuji learned that Duan Tiande had framed him for defecting to the Jin people in front of Jiaomuwang and the Seven Freaks of the South, which led to a misunderstanding and a clash between the two sides. Later, the Seven Freaks of the South and Jiaomuwang saw Duan Tiande appear at the Fahui Temple and realized they had been deceived by him. Afterwards, Qiu Chuji and the Seven Freaks of the South agreed to rescue the widows of the Guo and Yang families separately, and to have the children of the two families compete at the Drunk Immortal Pavilion eighteen years later.
Eighteen years later, Qiu Chuji and the Seven Freaks of the South reunited. Guo Jing was now a heroic and righteous man, while Yang Kang had become a traitor. Qiu Chuji publicly admitted defeat in the wager they had made years ago. Although Ke Zhen'e was furious that his disciple was in love with Huang Rong, Master Ma Yu saw that Huang Rong truly loved Guo Jing, and with his persuasion, Ke Zhen'e eventually agreed to let the marriage be decided by Guo Jing's own wishes.
Mu Nian Ci took the wandering Yang Kang back home. Yang Kang did not understand why his mother was so determined to abandon the wealthy life at the palace and return to live in Niujiazhuang. Mu Nian Ci left Yang Tie Xin's iron spear as a memento for Yang Kang.
Although Yang Tie Xin had betrothed Mu Nian Ci to Guo Jing before his death, Mu Nian Ci knew Guo Jing had someone he loved, and she would not marry Guo Jing, only acknowledging that her father had promised her to the winner of the martial arts competition, Yang Kang.
Yang Kang was touched by Mu Nian Ci's sincerity, and promised that after he had taken care of the matters at hand, he would go to Niujiazhuang to formally propose to Mu Nian Ci. On their journey, Guo Jing and Huang Rong accidentally encountered Hong Qigong in a forest, and Huang Rong spontaneously challenged Hong Qigong to a game of cuju (ancient Chinese soccer).
