Episode 20 recap: The Vendetta of Extermination.
Ling Zhi had already recovered her lost memories and quickly told Bing Jian about it. She knew that it was Bing Jian who had sealed her memories, and she wanted to know what had happened back then. At first, Bing Jian wanted to conceal it, but Ling Zhi threatened him with her life, and Bing Jian had no choice but to tell the truth.
Even if knowing the truth caused her immense pain, Ling Zhi was willing to bear it. These memories, whether painful or distressing, had made her a different person from the Ling Zhi of six years ago. Mu Xuan Jue said that he was the one who had exterminated her clan, and she would definitely take revenge for this. When Mu Xuan Jue saw Ling Zhi come to his bedchamber, Ling Zhi picked up a sword nearby. Mu Xuan Jue quickly reminded her that the sword was extremely sharp. Ling Zhi approached Mu Xuan Jue closely and kissed him, hoping to make him let his guard down. However, in Ling Zhi's eyes, there was only hatred. Mu Xuan Jue was still immersed in Ling Zhi's gentleness when she suddenly drew the sword against him.
Ling Zhi's strength was ultimately no match for Mu Xuan Jue's, and Mu Xuan Jue was knocked unconscious before he could explain himself. Mu Xuan Jue noticed that there were black-clothed men lurking at the door, and he killed them on the spot, realizing that they were the Empress Dowager's people.
Mu Xuan Jue was also injured in the fight. When he was about to go check on Ling Zhi, Ling Zhi took out a dagger, intending to take Mu Xuan Jue's life. However, Mu Xuan Jue stated that he had never harmed the Ling Clan. The dagger in Ling Zhi's hand did not move, and since that was the case, Mu Xuan Jue let Ling Zhi kill him. Ling Zhi's emotions were stirred, and she dropped the dagger, tears streaming down her face.
Mu Xuan Jue said that she did not have to believe him, but he would prove everything to Ling Zhi. Ling Zhi did not expect that Mu Xuan Jue would take her to the dungeon to see Huan Fei. In fact, Mu Xuan Jue had not killed Huan Fei, but had released her in front of Ling Zhi and let her go home. Huan Fei also did not expect that Mu Xuan Jue had never intended to kill her.
The reason Mu Xuan Jue did this was to make the Empress Dowager think that Huan Fei was dead, so that she could live on. At first, Huan Fei did not believe Mu Xuan Jue, but Mu Xuan Jue handed the sword over to Huan Fei, and she finally believed him.
