Episode 17 recap: Chu Yun publicly praised Qi Lin.
Qi Lin had been rotating through the Second Court for half a year, and he deeply felt the hardship of the execution work. Qi Lin asked Qi Run Yu to make a list, and he went to the market to buy vegetables. Fang Qiang enthusiastically returned home, and Qi Lin wanted to take him to buy vegetables together. Fang Qiang boasted that a friend had given him a nice car, and Qi Run Yu suspected he had gotten entangled with the wrong crowd again, worried that he would get into trouble, and couldn't help but scold him a little. Ma Wen Jun pointed out the mistakes in the execution of the repayment cases involving Lin Mengqiu and Yan Di, criticizing them. Dean Tang affirmed the recent achievements of the Second Court and praised Qi Lin in particular. Qi Lin expressed that his rotation through the Second Court made him truly appreciate the importance of execution work and the hard work of his colleagues, which was echoed by his coworkers.
Dean Tang asked Chu Yun to talk about Qi Lin's performance at the Second Execution Division. Chu Yun praised Qi Lin highly, saying that he was not dogmatic in law enforcement, was willing to listen to the voices of those being executed, and was able to combine high ideals with warm compassion in his work. Everyone present applauded and cheered for Qi Lin.
The higher authorities affirmed the court's practice of rotating execution staff, and specifically requested that Qi Lin participate in a seminar to share his experiences. Zhou Lei thanked Dean Tang for his recognition of the Second Execution Division's work.
Qin Hong took Dai Lan to the village to find antiques. They found one of the four "Heavenly Kings" wood carvings, which the seller priced at 30,000 yuan. Qin Hong only offered 10,000 and after some bargaining, got it for 12,000. However, Qin Hong then deliberately destroyed the carving in front of everyone, leaving Dai Lan very confused.
Qi Lin wanted to take Chu Yun out to dinner to express his gratitude. At the Uncle Nine's bar, Chu Yun shared with Qi Lin her views on the future direction of execution work. Qi Lin proposed two principles - treating applicants and those being executed equally, and truly empathizing with the latter. Chu Yun found this very insightful. Qi Lin also took the opportunity to plead on behalf of Ou Yang Lu Lu and Tian Jia, and Chu Yun reluctantly agreed after much consideration.
Ma Wen Jun brought Shen Ting home to visit his mother, who again pressured Shen Ting to have a child. When the traditional Chinese medicine doctor Xu arrived, Qin Hong had requested him to examine Shen Ting. The doctor concluded Shen Ting had little chance of becoming pregnant, disappointing Ma's mother, but Shen Ting stated she was willing to take the medicine and even divorce Ma Wen Jun if she could not conceive.
Uncle Nine noticed Chu Yun's interest in Qi Lin, and tried to matchmake them, but Chu Yun quickly interrupted. Jing Jing also tried to bring Chu Yun and Qi Lin together.
