Episode 38 recap: Gu Xiao Meng Rejects Lv Xiang's Confession

In episode 38, Gu Xiao Song reminds Lv Xiang that he should also attend the event, not just Gu Xiao Meng. Lv Xiang recalls the first time he saw Gu Xiao Meng in a clown costume and decides he wants to wear the same costume to evoke her memories. Bao Cheng suggests preparing flowers and getting Tian Ning, who Gu Xiao Meng trusts the most, to help.

After planning everything out, they put their plan into action. Gu Xiao Meng agrees to meet Tian Ning at the amusement park, where the lights and flowers are already set up. Lv Xiang holds the flowers, wanting to express his feelings, but Gu Xiao Meng stops him before he can speak. She understands his intentions but thinks his approach is too immature, as life is not just about romance. Lv Xiang admits he hasn't done a good job, and promises to put Gu Xiao Meng first from now on. However, Gu Xiao Meng shakes her head, saying she doesn't want to be his top priority, and thanks him for the romantic gesture, but she no longer needs it. She then leaves without looking back, as Bao Cheng and Gu Xiao Song arrive too late to witness the planned romantic event.

Bao Cheng and Gu Xiao Song find Lv Xiang standing there despondently, unsure of what happened. Gu Xiao Meng goes back to rehearse her performance, but her mind is elsewhere, and she keeps messing up her lines. The class president hopes Xu Zhi Hang can talk to Gu Xiao Meng, who notices she's troubled but can't get to the root of the issue. Xu Zhi Hang offers to take Gu Xiao Meng home, suggesting she get some rest.

Lv Xiang removes his makeup, and Bao Cheng and Gu Xiao Song try to comfort him. Lv Xiang is gloomy and hurries home to see his child, as the usual babysitter, Zhang Jie, is absent today. Xu Zhi Hang brings a box of mangoes when he drops Gu Xiao Meng off, and insists on carrying them upstairs. Gu Xiao Song is not welcoming towards Xu Zhi Hang, but Liu Mei Qin is very enthusiastic, praising Xu Zhi Hang and trying to get Gu Xiao Meng and him to chat in the room. Xu Zhi Hang politely declines and leaves.

Liu Mei Qin continues to praise Xu Zhi Hang and then rudely dismisses Lv Xiang when he appears. Lv Xiang overhears Liu Mei Qin persistently encouraging Gu Xiao Meng to be with Xu Zhi Hang, despite Gu Xiao Meng and Gu Xiao Song's objections. Feeling dejected, Lv Xiang leaves.

Sitting on a bench in the neighborhood, Lv Xiang broods over the rejection of his confession to Gu Xiao Meng, unable to shake off the melancholy. Returning home, he finds Wang Hong concerned about whether he and Gu Xiao Meng can reconcile. Lv Xiang hopes his mother won't interfere in their affairs, as he still wants to win Gu Xiao Meng back, but the timing of their remarriage is uncertain.

Wang Hong worries, as she has already undergone two surgeries and cannot endure a third cranial operation. Gu Xiao Meng plans to work while also pursuing a psychology graduate degree, believing that today's children are too smart and need better education.

Tian Ning praises Gu Xiao Meng's dedication to her career and inquires about her and Lv Xiang's relationship, but Gu Xiao Meng remains silent. Gu Xiao Song receives a call from Xu Zhi Hang, asking to meet at his studio. At the door, Gu Xiao Song calls Lv Xiang, insisting on getting revenge on Xu Zhi Hang, but Lv Xiang advises him against causing trouble, as they live in a rule-of-law society. However, Gu Xiao Song hangs up the phone.

Gu Xiao Song reminded Xu Zhihang that Gu Xiao Meng and Lv Xiang had only temporarily left, and he did not want Xu Zhihang to get involved. Xu Zhihang said that although he liked Gu Xiao Meng, he just did not like to disrupt other people's marriages. Xu Zhihang learned from Gu Xiao Meng that Gu Xiao Song was starting a business, and he deliberately showed him some designs, which immediately caught Gu Xiao Song's eye, who then chased after Xu Zhihang to have him explain the details in more depth.

Gu Xiao Song also discovered that Xu Zhihang had photos taken with many big shots, realizing that he was a hidden wealthy tycoon. Liu Meiqin kept asking what time it was, and when the boy who brought the mangoes would come, and Gu Xiao Meng would patiently answer her mother's repeated questions.
