Episode 35 recap: The Hasty Closure of the Feng Yu Nian Murder Case
In episode 35, Ou Xiao An desperately evacuated all the children from the elementary school, then told Lu Zi Ming to follow Liang Yue Cheng to the safety of the communist-controlled area. Lu Zi Ming was incredibly grateful and said he would follow Ou Xiao An in the revolution. However, Ou Xiao An knew that the most important thing was for Lu Zi Ming to stay alive, so he asked Liang Yue Cheng to help hide his identity.
The wedding day was a lively affair. Wei Qing Ming and Wen Yi Shan whispered that they thought Feng Yu Nian was trying to elevate Li Shao Tang to the station chief position so he could enjoy the benefits. Miao Jiang was aware of this, but remained outwardly calm.
In the middle of the wedding, Feng Jing Xian suddenly rushed in, saying Feng Yu Nian had died in the dressing room. Feng Jing Xian was distraught, and Li Shao Tang rushed over, causing Feng Jing Xian to faint upon seeing him.
Wei Qing Ming and Wen Yi Shan immediately locked down the hotel. Wen Yi Shan reported the incident to Qin Mo Qing, who came back with the intoxicated Ou Xiao An. They all realized this was likely an inside job, with Li Shao Tang as the prime suspect.
Wen Yi Shan saw this as an opportunity to implicate Miao Jiang and undermine Wei Qing Ming. Meanwhile, Shen Cong Wu reported the incident to Dai Li, hoping to pin the murder on the communists.
When Shen Congwu saw the situation, he directly issued an order, saying that the case must be cracked before Feng Yu Nian's funeral.
Miao Jiang also sensed something was off - all the people from the elementary school had disappeared overnight, and she suspected it was the work of Ou Xiao An and Qin Mo Qing.
Wei Qingming told her to provide evidence, but Miao Jiang couldn't. Heshen saw Miao Jiang's state and felt quite dissatisfied, thinking she had become a bit cowardly, so he warned her not to be afraid of death, as the Falling Sakura plan still had to continue.
Soon after, the newspaper reported that the murderer had been found - a hotel employee who was also a communist.
When Ou Xiao An and Qin Mo Qing saw this report, they felt something was off. Through their connections in the police, they found that Li Dachun had actually died the night before the wedding, and the real murderer was Feng Yu Nian. The two felt there was more to this case, so they took the keys to the crime scene and searched Li Dachun's room.
In their search, they discovered a photo of Li Shaotang in Li Dachun's suitcase. This confirmed that Li Shaotang was a Japanese spy. However, Ou Xiao An didn't plan to make any moves yet, wanting to let Li Shaotang let his guard down and expose himself.
At the funeral, Shen Congwu hypocritically comforted Feng Jingxian, saying her father had died honorably and was even posthumously promoted to colonel. But Shen Congwu was inwardly doubting whether Li Shaotang was connected to Feng Yu Nian's death, so he called Li Shaotang aside to question him.
Li Shaotang then fabricated a story, saying he had to kill Feng Yu Nian because Feng Yu Nian knew the bridge hadn't actually died. Meanwhile, Wang Qiushui had also found that the American-Chinese Liu Hengli might have clues about Ye Xuanmin, so he planned to have Ou Xiao An make contact with him.
When Qin Mo Qing showed the photo to Wang Qiushui, the two were murmuring that the investigation of the Juntong (Military Statistics Bureau) into Li Shaotang might not have been thorough enough.
