Episode 36 recap: Li Shao Tang Forges a New Identity for the Bridge

In Episode 36, Wang Qiu Shui is very troubled. She suspects that the big shots in the Military Intelligence Service (Juntong) are hiding something scandalous with Li Shao Tang, otherwise how could Feng Yu Nian's case have been swept under the rug so easily? She instructs Qin Mo Qing to continue investigating covertly to uncover the hidden plot.

Meanwhile, the guerilla forces on the Yunnan-Burma border receive an explosive report - they've found a lead on 9548 and it's linked to a company called Jiurong Trading. Hearing this, Ou Xiao An and Qin Mo Qing rush to the Jiurong company and demand to review the vehicle logs. The manager, sensing trouble, starts prevaricating, trying to brush them off. But Qin Mo Qing is not fooled - she promptly produces a rectification notice, scaring the manager into handing over the records.

Examining the logs, Qin Mo Qing discovers a car that went out and never came back - it was intercepted by retreating Japanese troops, and the people in it were later taken to a POW camp in Chongqing by the nationalist army. Worried that 9548 may have been mistaken for a Japanese prisoner, Qin Mo Qing and Ou Xiao An devise a plan - they'll try to locate 9548 before Li Shao Tang, but getting into the POW camp won't be easy.

Qin Mo Qing hatches an idea - she has Ou Xiao An anonymously write a letter in Japanese, blowing the whistle on the POW camp, and sends it to the Military Committee and American reporters. This will force the Military Committee and the Americans to get involved, making it easier for them to locate 9548.

On another front, Feng Jing Xian suddenly shows up at Li Shao Tang's place, saying she can't stay at home anymore and wants to live with him. Although Li Shao Tang sees through her motives, he can't bring himself to refuse her.

Qin Mo Qing also reaches out to Zhou Ruo Fei at a bar, deliberately bringing up the POW camp story being picked up by reporters. Zhou Ruo Fei is alarmed, knowing this could seriously damage the nationalist army's reputation if exposed. He begs Qin Mo Qing to help hush it up with the American reporter.

The American reporter, however, is stubborn and insists on investigating the POW camp firsthand. Qin Mo Qing feigns ignorance, but inwardly she knows there must be someone sabotaging things behind the scenes. Wen Yi Shan seizes the opportunity, sending Qin Mo Qing and Ou Xiao An to follow up on this, hoping to use the American reporter to find leverage against Li Shao Tang.

Meanwhile, the political commissar Yan is not idle either - he has the organization posthumously award Wang Yun Jie the title of martyr, and personally informs Wang Qiu Shui. Hearing that Ou Xiao An may be a party member recruited by Lou Ming Yuan, Wang Qiu Shui is even more impressed with him, considering him a rare talent.

At the POW camp, the camp commander Yu Guangqi receives Qin Mo Qing and the team, but Ou Xiao An deliberately sends him away, allowing Qin Mo Qing and the reporter to investigate further. During the investigation, Qin Mo Qing notices a room heavily guarded by soldiers, and is prevented from taking photos. Fortunately, Miao Jiang happens to pass by, so Qin Mo Qing asks him to request permission from Li Shao Tang. The plot thickens, becoming increasingly complex.
