Episode 39 recap: Li Shao Tang Betrayed and Imprisoned by the Brigadier General
In Episode 39, Qin Mo Qing, in order to escape, dragged Ou Xiao An into a wild car chase, with Shen Cong Wu and his men in hot pursuit. While Qin Mo Qing was contemplating her next move, Ou Xiao An kept insisting that she must go to Yan'an and wait for him. As the pursuing vehicles drew closer, the two staged a dramatic scene in the car, with Qin Mo Qing pretending to shoot Ou Xiao An and pushing him out of the moving vehicle, before plunging the car into the river.
Shen Cong Wu and his men unleashed a barrage of gunfire at the river, but seeing blood, they assumed the worst and believed the target had been eliminated.
Ye Xuan Min was full of admiration for Qin Mo Qing's exploits with the Military Intelligence Bureau, saying she had accomplished the most impossible task. When Wen Yi Shan heard that Qin Mo Qing had escaped, he flew into a rage and ordered his men to capture her at all costs.
Li Shao Tang had planned to confront Wen Yi Shan, but the return of the wounded Ou Xiao An temporarily sidetracked this issue. Ou Xiao An deliberately claimed that Qin Mo Qing had gone mad and that he was injured while trying to protect Shen Cong Wu, leaving Wen Yi Shan somewhat skeptical, prompting him to send Li Shao Tang to question Shen Cong Wu.
Shen Cong Wu had no desire to discuss Qin Mo Qing, as he had been given a direct order to eliminate the Brigadier General, and he was displeased with the staged "death" ploy. Li Shao Tang felt secure with American backing, but Shen Cong Wu shook his head, saying that public opinion had turned against the Nationalist Army, and the Americans were no longer reliable. The higher-ups then demanded a final interrogation of the Brigadier General, warning Li Shao Tang not to interfere.
Shen Cong Wu's ulterior motive was that with the Brigadier General's death, Li Shao Tang would be able to continue helping him with the development of biological weapons to use against the Communists.
Ou Xiao An, also known as Midnight, went to seek out Ye Xuan Min, hoping to gather information about Qin Mo Qing. Ye Xuan Min told him that Qin Mo Qing had already been safely transported and was now on a boat to Yan'an. He urged Ou Xiao An to leave as well, but Ou Xiao An suspected something amiss between the Nationalist Army and Li Shao Tang, and decided to stay in Chongqing to uncover the hidden poison gas grenades.
Hezi followed Landel to see the Bridge, but the Bridge would not easily hand over his own hard work, especially to the Nationalist army and those unreliable Americans. Hezi pretended to be very concerned, but the Bridge saw right through it. Hezi said she was here to continue the Falling Sakura plan, wanting the Bridge to reveal Miao Jiang, and she deliberately disclosed the location of the poison gas grenades to the Nationalist army, hoping they would think the crisis was resolved.
Zhou Ruo Fei interrogated the Bridge, trying to get information about the hiding place of the poison gas grenades and the identity of the mole. The Bridge directly pointed to Li Shao Tang as the mole, and when Shen Cong Wu heard this, he was furious, saying that Li Shao Tang's identity had been personally verified by him and Dai Li, how could he be a Japanese spy? But Li Shao Tang admitted it straightforwardly.
This really dealt a blow to Shen Cong Wu's reputation in the Military Statistics Bureau.
Ou Xiao An was puzzled by the Bridge's actions, feeling that the Bridge was still scheming about the Falling Sakura plan, and he did not believe that Li Shao Tang was the mole. In the end, the Bridge was executed, and everyone witnessed it. Hezi planned to detonate the poison gas grenades during the victory celebration, and she also brought out the virus antidote, forcing Miao Jiang to carry out the mission.

Ou Xiao An personally went to destroy the poison gas grenades, only to find that the ones the Bridge had given were fakes. The conspiracy behind this was becoming more and more mysterious.
