Episode 16 recap: Song Huanbei Confesses His Love to Yun Shu

In episode 16, Yun Shu was deeply worried about the emperor's decision to marry off Princess Feiyun, so she quickly summoned Song Huanbei and Meng Niang to discuss a strategy. Meng Niang told Yun Shu to prepare writing materials, claiming that she had sustained an injury to her genitals during a military campaign, rendering her incapable of sexual function. She then instructed Qian Yan to deliver the written plea to the palace, hoping the emperor would revoke the marriage.

Song Huanbei knew that this tactic could work on the emperor, but he was aware that it was Shen Lan who was actually plotting to seize military power. Therefore, Shen Lan would not give up easily and there would likely be even more outrageous events to prepare for in the future. Qian Yan was deeply saddened to learn that Yun Shu had lost her sexual function, which explained why she had never kept her male companions overnight, despite maintaining them. Qian Yan also felt responsible for not taking better care of the general, and she sat in her room, drinking and crying.

Shen Lan was furious to learn that the emperor had rejected Yun Shu's marriage to Princess Feiyun, and he was even more resentful towards Song Huanbei and Meng Niang for coming up with the plan. He was determined to find a way to eliminate them and seize Yun Shu's military power. Meng Niang wanted Yun Shu to meet with Song Huanbei on the evening of the Qixi Festival, so she had prepared Yun Shu's mind for this encounter.

Yun Shu also had the intention of taking her relationship with Song Huanbei to the next level, so she dressed up and went to meet him. Song Huanbei had sent everyone else in the household away for the day, leaving only Yun Shu and him at home, which made the date more convenient. Song Huanbei wanted to express his true feelings to Yun Shu and hoped that she would become his one and only.
