Episode 26 recap: Shen Lan and Yun Shu Depart this Life, Songhuan and Cloud Shu Spend Their Remaining Years Together

In episode 26, Songhuan discovered that the Emperor had already been assassinated when he met with him. At that moment, Shen Lan arrived with his men and framed Songhuan for the assassination attempt, ordering his arrest. Knowing he had been set up by Shen Lan, Songhuan could only resist with all his might. Unexpectedly, Shen Lan tried to eliminate Songhuan with a hidden weapon, but Yun Shu stepped in and deflected the arrow with his sword.

Shen Lan told Yun Shu not to get entangled with the rebel Songhuan, but Yun Shu insisted that Shen Lan, not Songhuan, was the true regicide. Yun Shu was concerned that the Emperor would re-investigate the old Mo family case, and the hidden mastermind was Shen Lan. However, Shen Lan dismissively declared that no matter what they said, it was now useless, as he was the most powerful now, and directly ordered Songhuan and Yun Shu to be apprehended.

Unexpectedly, the Emperor then appeared. It turned out that Songhuan had already anticipated Shen Lan's desperate attempt to assassinate the Emperor, so he risked his life to inform the Emperor of Shen Lan's crimes, and they had pre-planned a strategy to trap Shen Lan. Shen Lan was completely exposed, but he still refused to repent, claiming that the Emperor had deposed the former Crown Prince Shen Mo out of fear of Shen's clan's power, and that he had married Cloud Shu only to seize the Cloud family's military authority. As for the investigation into the Mo family, he was worried his own family would be implicated.

Shen Lan grew angrier and angrier, and directly lunged at the Emperor with his sword. Songhuan blocked the attack, but the blade veered towards Yun Shu. In that moment, Cloud Shu threw herself in front of the blade, and although Shen Lan tried to pull back, the momentum carried the sword into her chest. Cloud Shu desperately pleaded with Shen Lan not to err further, and Shen Lan was left dumbfounded, never intending to kill the one he loved.

Witnessing his aunt's murder, Yun Shu drew his sword and struck down Shen Lan in the imperial court. After Shen Lan's death, the Emperor discovered that Songhuan greatly resembled the deposed Crown Prince Shen Mo, and speculated that Songhuan might be Shen Mo revealed, but Songhuan steadfastly maintained that the former Crown Prince had perished in the Taoling Residence fire.

Songhuan no longer wished to be embroiled in these turbulent affairs, only wanting to spend his remaining days in peaceful freedom with Yun Shu.
