Episode 5 recap: Shen Lan Kills Wang Kui

In episode 5, Qian Yan felt that a night had passed and believed the transportation should be more comfortable now, so he unlocked the room for them, but was met with Yun Shu's reproach, feeling very helpless. The three of them went to Wang Kui's hiding place with the Qianji Pavilion token. Wang Kui demanded that Song Huan Bei bring the token over, but unexpectedly used it to hold Song Huan Bei hostage. However, it was useless, as Yun Shu directly shot Wang Kui in the shoulder with a bow and arrow. Realizing he was no match, Wang Kui did not resist, and only asked Yun Shu to go into the room alone to retrieve what he wanted.

After Yun Shu entered the room, Wang Kui had already planned ahead, using his daughter Wang Meng as a shield, and also using lime to blind Yun Shu's eyes, allowing him to escape. By the time Song Huan Bei arrived, Wang Kui had already disappeared. Due to being held hostage by Wang Kui, Song Huan Bei also suffered some injuries. Yun Shu went to the room to treat him, but was accused by Song Huan Bei, who knew Wang Kui was cunning and treacherous, but still recklessly entered his room. However, Yun Shu believed her life was granted by the Empress, and everything had to be based on the Empress.

The little girl Meng Meng, who they brought down, hoped Yun Shu would take her in. Song Huan Bei made new clothes for Meng Meng and also bought the jade hairpin that Yun Shu liked. On his escape, Wang Kui was ambushed by Prince Shen Lan. Wang Kui had previously colluded with Zhang Gongong to steal the Mo family's bow and arrow blueprints, privately manufacturing bows and arrows to amass wealth, while also hiding accounts from Shen Lan. This was extremely heinous, so Shen Lan directly killed Wang Kui to eliminate the threat. However, Shen Lan did not find the desired confession letter on Wang Kui, only finding a token, which was witnessed by Song Huan Bei's men, but went unnoticed by Shen Lan.

After returning to the palace, Shen Lan visited his mother Yun Yi. Although they appeared to have a mother-son relationship on the surface, they were actually very close privately. Yun Yi quickly dismissed the maids, concerned about the matter being exposed. Shen Lan handed the token found on Wang Kui to Yun Yi. Although the confession letter had not been found yet, it was just a matter of time. However, he wanted to know what the imperial physician Wu had written in the confession that made Yun Yi so worried. Unexpectedly, Yun Yi claimed that Yun Shu's disguise as a man was related to the remnants of the Mo family, and that the imperial physician Wu, who had the Emperor's trust, had discovered this matter when Yun Yi was careless years ago, so she wanted to destroy all the evidence.

Shen Lan felt that if this was revealed, the imperial throne would be in jeopardy, and even the Yun family would be implicated. Song Huan Bei's subordinates directly reported Shen Lan's actions, and they had also obtained the confession letter from Wang Kui's possession. Song Huan Bei required that Yun Shu not be informed of this, and he also wanted to personally meet Shen Lan, who was Song Huan Bei's elder brother.
