Episode 7 recap: # A New Scam Emerges

In Episode 7, Mr. Ge is busy writing the character for "tiger," intending to put one on either side for a powerful effect. Ms. Qian comments that since she's running a beauty salon, those characters might not be appropriate. Mr. Ge insists he'll write something more elegant, but again ends up writing "tiger," leaving Ms. Qian exasperated and questioning if he can write anything else.

Mr. Ge argues that mastering a single character is already impressive. Song Shiqing, who is also present, shows Mr. Ge a book where his "tiger" character has been included, mentioning its market value. Ms. Qian is skeptical and asks what authority they have to set the price. Song explains that they base their pricing on big data, asserting it's the most suitable price and encouraging them to verify this for themselves.

Song suggests they add him on WeChat to discuss further. Both Mr. Ge and Ms. Qian comply, only to be surprised when Song reveals he's a police officer with the District Public Security Bureau's Anti-Fraud Unit. He informs them that there are numerous scams targeting calligraphy enthusiasts, stressing the need for awareness.

Zheng Xiang Yang mentions that they often conduct anti-fraud campaigns in the community, but Song believes these should be more varied, including games and small quizzes. Zheng acknowledges that their efforts could be more detailed and promises to enhance their approach.

He Jing Yun and her team distribute promotional flyers, but some visitors are frustrated. One person complains about traveling eight bus stops just to receive a flyer, expressing disappointment in the organization's lack of substance. He Jing Yun's team feels helpless.

Later, someone approaches He Jing Yun, and she offers a test. The individual, K, claims to be familiar with anti-fraud campaigns. He Jing Yun suggests they both take the quiz together. A woman mentions Jiang Chuan's mother and questions whether she might have been scammed after joining a calligraphy group.

When Jiang Chuan learns about this, he feels anxious and rushes home to talk to his mother. Jiang Chuan's mother has added the group's WeChat and is worried that her calligraphy isn’t good enough to sell. Hou Yixin reassures her that pricing is determined by the market, not just their opinion, alleviating her concerns.

As Jiang Chuan and He Jing Yun return home, He Jing Yun advises Jiang Chuan's mother to be cautious, emphasizing that scams often target those who lack discernment. This statement angers Jiang Chuan's mother, who insists she is capable of making her own judgments and feels insulted.

Feeling distressed, Jiang Chuan secretly checks his mother’s WeChat and confides in Zheng Xiang Yang, expressing his concerns about the group. Zheng advises him to stay calm and cautions against snooping on his mother’s messages.

Jiang Chuan's mother arrives at the community center, expressing her belief that her son has always been good, implying someone has led him astray. He Jing Yun, upset, confronts her, and Jiang Chuan's mother retorts that she knows how He Jing Yun lost her previous job, choosing not to expose her out of respect.
