Episode 21 recap: Lin Dong and Chen Lu Yang Selected for Physics Competition
In episode 21, the students gather around a campfire, happily dancing. Zhao Laoshi curiously asks Fang Hai what type of guy she likes. Fang Hai playfully teases Zhao Laoshi, saying she doesn't like guys who wear athletic clothes. Seeing Zhao Laoshi's disappointment, Fang Hai can't help but laugh.
The next day, Zhao Laoshi appears in front of Fang Hai wearing a suit, and Fang Hai finds it adorably comical.
On the bus ride, Xiao Xiao Hua is sandwiched between Ling Dong and Lan Jing Hui, napping. Xu Meng Yu is also asleep next to Ma Yi Ming, and the whole bus is filled with a peaceful calm.
Back at school, Fang Hai announces the test scores and has Xu Meng Yu post the results. While many students did well, some failed. Ling Dong and Chen Lu Yang are called into the physics teacher's office and told they will represent the school in a physics competition.
Chen Lu Yang overhears classmates saying he is just Ling Dong's sidekick, which bothers him. To become the lead, he dedicates himself to studying intensely. When Xia Qing Tian sees his hard work, she gives him a candy, which he finds sweeter than anything.
Ling Dong also studies tirelessly, sometimes forgetting to eat. When Lan Jing Hui and Xiao Xiao Hua bring him food, they find him asleep at his desk. Lan Jing Hui makes sure everyone is quiet so Ling Dong can rest.
Chen Lu Yang and Ling Dong stay late studying together, but Chen Lu Yang finds it too depressing and leaves. Lan Jing Hui brings Ling Dong a sandwich, urging him to eat for his health, but he continues studying as he eats.
The next day, Chen Lu Yang sees Xia Qing Tian still cleaning the classroom and asks for another candy. She gives him one and also gifts him her keychain, hoping it will bring him good luck.
Ling Dong was doing homework when Xiao Xiao Hua rushed in to say that Lan Jing Hui was in trouble. Ling Dong nervously followed Xiao Xiao Hua to find Lan Jing Hui, only to discover he was fine at a restaurant.
Lan Jing Hui invited Ling Dong to join him for a meal, and Ling Dong decided to stay.
Fang Hai was planning to take the children to the capital city for a competition. Since their teacher Guo was suddenly unavailable, Zhao was asked to accompany them. Lan Jing Hui, Xia Qing Tian, Xiao Xiao Hua and others also wanted to join the trip, so they all went together.
Fang Hai reminded them not to cause any trouble, and then they boarded the high-speed train.
In the capital city, except for Ling Dong and Chen Lu Yang who were studying, the others went out to eat, drink and have fun every day. They could often hear the sound of square dancing from the plaza below, which affected their studies. Lan Jing Hui played games all night, and the next morning he was listless when he went to breakfast with Xiao Xiao Hua and Xia Qing Tian.
When Fang Hai and Zhao returned from the supermarket, Zhao had caught a slight cold, so Fang Hai found some medicine for her. A woman saw that Fang Hai was pretty and could cook, and wanted to introduce her own son to Fang Hai, but Zhao lied that they were a married couple with a child, so the woman had to leave.
Fang Hai and Zhao cooked a delicious meal for the children. Xia Qing Tian praised Fang Hai's cooking skills. Fang Hai reminded Ling Dong and Chen Lu Yang to rest early and prepare for the exam the next day.
But during the meal, they found that Lan Jing Hui had disappeared. Zhao went to look for him but couldn't find him, and Fang Hai's call went straight to voicemail. They were worried, so they quickly went to look for Lan Jing Hui. Xiao Xiao Hua also felt something was wrong, so she reminded Xia Qing Tian to check if Lan Jing Hui had returned to his room.
After learning that Lan Jing Hui was missing, Ling Dong immediately said he would go look for him.
