Episode 25 recap: Lingdong's Hidden Tears
Lingdong returned home and proactively offered to help with cooking, but his mother politely declined. Inadvertently, Lingdong discovered his mother's medication, which made him worried. Though his mother casually claimed it was just for a common cold, Lingdong remained concerned and promised to come home early every day to help.
Lingdong's mother was touched by his thoughtfulness. Meanwhile, Xiao Xiao Hua anxiously awaited her aptitude test results. Lan Jing Hui and Xia Qing Tian intentionally teased her, suggesting her scores might not be ideal. However, when Xiao Xiao Hua learned that she not only passed, but scored over 30 points above the requirement, she excitedly exclaimed.
Lan Jing Hui proposed going out to celebrate in the evening, but Lingdong said he had other obligations and couldn't join. Lan Jing Hui expressed some dissatisfaction, accusing Lingdong of always being busy, but Xiao Xiao Hua quickly intervened, stating she also had to return home early with good news.
When Xiao Xiao Hua got home, she eagerly wanted to share her great test results with her parents. However, her parents were absorbed in watching TV and had no reaction to her success. After the college entrance examination (gaokao) admission results were released, everyone realized that Lan Jing Hui and Xiao Xiao Hua both planned to apply to Peking University. However, Xiao Xiao Hua noticed that Ling Dong's application form was blank.
At that moment, Ling Dong was busy making a phone call to his mother, but no one was answering. He hurried back home and found his mother collapsed on the floor. He immediately took her to the hospital. While waiting outside the operating room, Ling Dong recalled the times when he used to wait with his mother for his father to come out of the operating room. But his father never came out again, and this memory made Ling Dong grip his fists tighter in anxiety.
Soon, Lan Jing Hui arrived at the hospital and comforted Ling Dong, accompanying him as they waited for the surgery results. Fortunately, the doctor informed Ling Dong that his mother was out of danger, though she needed to be hospitalized for observation.
Ling Dong finally heaved a sigh of relief, but he still felt very tired and saddened. In the following days, Lan Jing Hui stayed with Ling Dong, keeping vigil and caring for his mother. He noticed that Ling Dong was very familiar with the hospital environment, as his mother had often been ill.
Seeing Ling Dong's strength and maturity, Lan Jing Hui felt a mix of emotions. The next day, Xiao Xiao Hua brought chicken soup made by her mother and visited Ling Dong's mother in the hospital. She met Lan Jing Hui there, and they went to the ward together.
Coincidentally, the doctor came to check on the patient at that time, and Ling Dong's mother expressed her desire to be discharged early to celebrate Ling Dong's birthday at home. The doctor agreed, as long as she rested properly. Xiao Xiao Hua also offered to take notes for Ling Dong so that he could focus on caring for his mother.
After Ling Dong's insistence, Lan Jing Hui finally left with Xiao Xiao Hua and returned to school.
