Episode 7 recap: Unfinished Time.
Lan Jing Hui and Ling Dong were unable to accept the fact that they were put in the same study group, until the principal announced the start of the school basketball league. However, students with three failing grades were not allowed to participate in the basketball competition. From then on, Lan Jing Hui saw Ling Dong as a lifesaver, and under Ling Dong's supervision, Lan Jing Hui improved his grades. The school's basketball team was also officially formed, the only constant being that Lan Jing Hui still had to do homework under Ling Dong's supervision.
Lan Jing Hui went to the broadcasting station to promote, openly saying that Ling Dong would continue to bring glory to the school, and also mentioned that Ling Dong was about to participate in the talent show selection. The entire school heard this, and Ling Dong went straight to the broadcasting station to find Lan Jing Hui, who was still boasting. Ling Dong couldn't understand why Lan Jing Hui was so insistent on participating in the talent show. Lan Jing Hui explained that Ling Dong had previously withdrawn from the physics competition, and now that the competition was over, Ling Dong had no reason not to participate. Ling Dong said he would announce to the whole school that Lan Jing Hui was his second cousin, but Lan Jing Hui immediately stopped him. The two started to shove each other, and Principal Zhang arrived in time. He directly punished Lan Jing Hui by making him run laps, and only gently admonished Ling Dong, which Lan Jing Hui criticized as double standards.
Regarding the talent show, Ling Dong felt very apologetic and specifically found Xiao Xiao Hua to apologize. Xiao Xiao Hua said she was already preparing and welcomed Ling Dong to come watch the band's rehearsal. When Lan Jing Hui returned to the band, Ling Dong was talking to Xiao Xiao Hua, and Lan Jing Hui immediately drove Ling Dong away. However, Ling Dong noticed that when Lan Jing Hui swore, his little finger was pressed against his thumb, which reminded Ling Dong of his childhood playmate, and he fell into deep thought.
Lan Jing Hui asked Ling Dong to help him study, and Ling Dong directly handed him a middle school practice book, saying it was assigned based on Lan Jing Hui's learning level. Lan Jing Hui was speechless and said that the talent show was also something he participated in based on Ling Dong's level. Ling Dong then proposed a bet, saying that if Lan Jing Hui could complete this practice book with an error rate of less than 1%, he would agree to participate in the talent show. Lan Jing Hui immediately agreed.
Lan Jing Hui confidently took the practice book home, but found that he could not even handle the middle school level exercises. Just as he was about to search for the answers, Ling Dong sent him a warning message, and Lan Jing Hui couldn't help but suspect that Ling Dong had installed surveillance at his home. But Lan Jing Hui still found a way, and finally completed the practice book successfully. Ling Dong then joined the band Lan Jing Hui had formed.
Ling Dong's arrival livened up the atmosphere of the band a lot, but Lan Jing Hui only assigned him the task of cleaning up. Everyone could see that Lan Jing Hui just wanted to take this opportunity to mess with Ling Dong, but Ling Dong endured it and did not retaliate. Lan Jing Hui later assigned Ling Dong the task of investigating the performance content of other schools. Ling Dong, being a man of few words, directly turned around and left.
The next day, when Lan Jing Hui was looking for Ling Dong, Ling Dong had already returned with the information he had gathered, and even created a small group chat called "Rooftop Squad" for the band. In the following days, the training was not very effective, and some people even wanted to give up. Ling Dong then proposed that he could learn the guitar, and Lan Jing Hui seized the opportunity to showcase his skills. Thereafter, Ling Dong practiced during class and after class, and quickly mastered it. Principal Zhang even came to visit them and brought the school-customized stage costumes, which everyone found distasteful but still wore.
