Episode 20 recap: Xi Yan and the Chen Rong Yi Army Clash
In episode 20, Xi Yan Qiang Xuan witnessed the heartbreaking scene of Xiu Yao's passing in his grandfather's tea vision. In that moment, his heart was torn with pain, and he abruptly woke up. He hurriedly explained to his grandfather and firmly denied killing Tu Shan Jing. Seeing Qiang Xuan's sincerity, the grandfather believed him, but pointed out that Qiang Xuan was too naive and failed to uncover the true identities of those assassins.
Qiang Xuan was deeply remorseful and swore to never betray Xiu Yao's trust again. Seeing his determination, the grandfather felt relieved, realizing that the enemies were not clever enough to push Qiang Xuan to the brink.
Meanwhile, Chi Shui Feng Long discovered that the assassins were sent by Chen Rong Xin Yue, and angrily confronted her.
Xin Yue did not deny it, openly admitting her actions, and even revealing that her original target was Xiu Yao, but Fang Feng Yi Ying's sudden betrayal disrupted her plan. Feng Long was disappointed by Xin Yue's stubbornness and mistakes, and the two had a heated argument. However, Xin Yue insisted that she would bear all the consequences and not implicate Feng Long and his family.
Feng Long told Xin Yue that he had handled the situation in Qingshui Town, but this help would be a one-time offer, hoping she could learn from this lesson. With that, Feng Long left disappointedly, leaving Xin Yue to face the consequences of her choices alone.
When Qiang Xuan visited Xiu Yao, he was devastated to find that she had grown white hair. But Xiu Yao was not bothered by it. She told Qiang Xuan that although she understood she might be abandoned between her mother and the people of Xi Yan, she did not resent anyone. However, Tu Shan Jing was the most important person in her heart, and she firmly believed that he was not dead and would be found.
Qiang Xuan promised to help in the search, and tightly embraced Xiu Yao, apologizing. Though a bit confused, Xiu Yao responded to Qiang Xuan's gesture with tenderness.
Qiang Xuan angrily confronted Xin Yue, asking if she had killed Tu Shan Jing. Xin Yue admitted it, saying her original target was Xiu Yao.
Furious, Qiang Xuan slapped Xin Yue, vowing that although he would not remove her from the position of Queen, he would strip her of real power and leave her isolated. With that, Qiang Xuan left, leaving Xin Yue crumpled on the ground.
Afterward, Qiang Xuan dispatched Ru Shou and Qin Mang to attack the Chen Rong Yi Army. But Feng Long volunteered to go, and Qiang Xuan had to agree. When Feng Long's father heard about this, he angrily scolded Feng Long for forgetting his roots. Feng Long reluctantly revealed the truth, saying he wanted to use his battle achievements to earn the Emperor's forgiveness for his sister. Hearing this, his father understood Feng Long's plight and sighed.
Before the expedition, Feng Long went to see Xin Yue, but was turned away.
Qiang Xuan's grandfather told Xiu Yao about Feng Long's deployment, worried that she would not let go of Xiang Liu. Xiu Yao held back her tears, recalling the days in Qingshui Town, her eyes glistening, but she said she had now come to understand the impermanence of the world.
Later, Xiang Liu set a trap, and Hong Jiang ambushed Feng Long, resulting in heavy losses for the Xi Yan army.
The court officials demanded a change in command. But changing the general would not benefit either Feng Long's supporters or opponents, as it would only breed suspicion. Trusting Feng Long, Qiang Xuan decided to personally investigate the situation in Qingshui Town. Upon hearing this, Xiu Yao also wanted to go. Initially, Qiang Xuan refused, but with his grandfather's support and considering Xiu Yao's attachment to Qingshui Town, he ultimately agreed.
The two decided to go to Qingshui Town together to uncover the truth and also help Xiu Yao find closure for her past.
