Episode 3 recap: Qiang Xuan appointed Ling Xue as the Queen.
Tu Shan Jing had something on his mind, and even late at night he had not rested. The maidservant Jing Ye came to remind him to rest. Tu Shan Jing noticed that Jing Ye had been crying, so he asked about the reason. That's when he remembered that today was the anniversary of his elder sister-in-law's passing.
Tu Shan Jing recalled that Jing Ye and his elder sister-in-law Lan Mei had entered the manor together, along with Lü Sou and Lan Xiang. The four of them had grown up together, eating and living as sisters. Later, Lan Mei and Lü Sou followed the young master, while Jing Ye and Lan Xiang followed Tu Shan Jing. Now, Lan Mei and Lü Sou had passed away, and Lan Xiang had left, leaving only Jing Ye behind.
Tu Shan Jing was surprised to hear that Lü Sou had also died. Jing Ye told him that Lü Sou, feeling guilty about Lan Mei's death, had fallen ill and passed away shortly after returning to her hometown.
Tu Shan Jing felt that Lan Mei's death had been quite unexpected. As he was chatting with Jing Ye, he recalled that during their mother's funeral, Lan Mei had secretly told him that she had something to say, but before she could meet with Tu Shan Jing, she had passed away. Reflecting on the events of that time, aside from their mother's illness and passing, the other significant event was that Tu Shan Jing had a child. This made him question the child's identity, and he decided to return to Qiurong the next day.
Tu Shan Jing obtained his son Tu Shan Xuan's blood sample and conducted a paternity test, but the results only confirmed their close relation, without specifying whether they were father and son, brothers, or uncle and nephew.
When it was time to choose Qiang Xuan's queen, Qiang Xuan always wanted Xiao Yao to be his queen, but he did not want to force Xiao Yao.
During the discussion with Xiao Yao and her grandfather, the grandfather believed that Xin Yue was the best choice for queen, because only by marrying into the Chen Rong clan could the Western Yan be developed and strengthened. The grandfather considered this from a larger perspective, because now that Western Yan had a king, it needed the support of the clans from the Central Plains. Only by intermarriage could the rule of Western Yan be stabilized, so there was no doubt that Xin Yue was the most suitable candidate for queen.
However, Xiao Yao disagreed. In an instant, Qiang Xuan was somewhat happy, thinking that Xiao Yao's heart was in sync with his. But he didn't expect that she was doing it for A Nian. Xiao Yao knew that A Nian had always liked Qiang Xuan. Seeing this, Qiang Xuan no longer cared about it. Since he had become the emperor, he would have to bear what he should bear. He was very sad and said that they could choose whoever they wanted to be the queen, and he didn't care.
A Nian knew the news that Xin Yue would become the queen, and she was very sad. But she had a little secret with her grandfather, so she believed that her grandfather would help her deal with it. She knew she could no longer stay in the Purple Gold Palace, so she decided to return to the Five Spirits Mountain, and she also hoped that Xiao Yao could go back with her. Xiao Yao also wanted to go back to accompany her father, so she bid farewell to the old Xi Yan Wang and prepared to leave.
Qiang Xuan chased after her and asked Xiao Yao when she would come back. Xiao Yao didn't give a clear time. Qiang Xuan said that after thirteen months, he would send someone to pick up Xiao Yao, or he could go himself. Xiao Yao felt that he should do what he should do, and she knew the way, so there was no need to bother someone to pick her up. Then she turned and left. Qiang Xuan watched Xiao Yao's back, feeling very sad.
Xin Yue became the queen as she wished. She wanted to be the queen of the world and also wanted to have love. But she wanted too much. On the night of the grand wedding, Qiang Xuan preferred to take a walk in the Phoenix Forest rather than go to Xin Yue's palace. Xin Yue knew this was Qiang Xuan's deliberate action. She was furious and wanted to throw away Qiang Xuan's gifts. Fortunately, the maid next to her strongly persuaded her not to, so that the other concubines wouldn't laugh at her. Once they misunderstood that the queen and Qiang Xuan were not getting along, Xin Yue's future path would be even more difficult. Xin Yue absolutely could not let the other women in the palace laugh at her.
