Episode 1 recap: Zhang Hai Chao Spares No Effort to Rescue Huang Lin Xi
In the first episode, in 2008, Shanghai girl Huang Lin Xi and her best friend Ye Cui went to the US to buy a house. In the middle of the night, Huang Lin Xi received a call from her husband Zhang Hai Chao, saying that her mother was hospitalized for a heart condition. She immediately decided to return to China. Zhang Hai Chao had already taken her mother to Zhongshan Hospital and found Director Xiong to perform the surgery.
Huang Lin Xi and Ye Cui were packing their bags to return to China, but suddenly the American police came to arrest Huang Lin Xi, saying she had smuggled robotic arm machines to Huayuan Microelectronics. When Zhang Hai Chao heard this, he knew it was the work of Huang Zhong Kai from Tengfei Corporation.
Because Zhang Hai Chao wanted to acquire Tengfei, he had sent Huang Lin Xi to persuade the shareholders.
This incident spread in both China and the US, causing Lingcheng Technology's stock to plummet and the shareholders to panic. Lingcheng was a company co-founded by Zhang Hai Chao and Huang Lin Xi, and after six years of hard work, they had turned it into a leader in the chip industry and even listed it on NASDAQ.
Zhang Hai Chao hurried back to the company, determined to do everything he could to rescue Huang Lin Xi. He borrowed money from Ouyang Zixia of Hongmu Capital, but Ouyang reminded him that if Huang Lin Xi was convicted, the company would have to pay over $20 million, and Lingcheng would be done for.
But Zhang Hai Chao still decided to rescue Huang Lin Xi. He borrowed over $1.3 million from Xue Atu, an old friend of Huang Lin Xi who was willing to help.
Ye Cui's newly purchased house just happened to be next to Huang Zhong Kai's.
Huang Zhong Kai hated Zhang Hai Chao, so he reported Huang Lin Xi.
Ye Cui asked a lawyer to visit Huang Lin Xi in prison and learned that she needed to post a $5 million bail to be released. They didn't have enough money, and Ye Cui wanted to sell the house, but was stopped by Huang Lin Xi.
Zhang Hai Chao was at a loss and had to go to Li Dongsheng to borrow money, but Li refused. The two even got into a fight, but fortunately Ouyang Zixia arrived in time. Later, the overseas Chinese community and the mayor helped Zhang Hai Chao raise $1 million, but there was still a $920,000 shortfall.
The mayor went to Li Dongsheng again, and finally Zhang Hai Chao was able to scrape together the $5 million bail to have Huang Lin Xi released.
As soon as Huang Lin Xi was out, she went to confront Huang Zhong Kai and scolded him.
The shareholders demanded that Zhang Hai Chao and Huang Lin Xi get divorced, or the company would be dragged down. But Zhang Hai Chao was unwilling. The lawyer suggested they divorce, or Zhang Hai Chao could take responsibility so that Huang Lin Xi could return to China.
Zhang Hai Chao chose to protect Huang Lin Xi and not let her plead guilty.
Huang Lin Xi recalled that in 1997, she had helped Xue Atu sell a house, but due to a murder case in the neighborhood, the house couldn't be sold, and she lost her job. Later, she switched to selling contact lenses and successfully sold them to the highly nearsighted Zhang Hai Chao.
