Episode 33 recap: Zhang Hai Chao gets criticized for Liu Han's death due to overwork
Episode 33: Ou Yang Zi Xia was crystal clear in her mind - Li Dong Sheng was no small dreamer with big ambitions. Huang Zhong Kai wanted to recruit Li Dong Sheng to take on Zhang Hai Chao together, but Li Dong Sheng just pretended to go along with it while secretly helping Zhang Hai Chao, leaving Huang Zhong Kai in a sorry state.
Ou Yang Zi Xia was puzzled, unsure of Li Dong Sheng's true motives. Later she realized that Li Dong Sheng wanted to use his own abilities to rightfully take control of Ling Tong, wanting Zhang Hai Chao to admit defeat fair and square.
This made Ou Yang Zi Xia gain a new respect for Li Dong Sheng. Zhang Hai Chao and Liu Han had been working like crazy, developing a frequency division multiplexing chip in just six months, causing a sensation in the industry and driving up Ling Tong's stock prices.
Zhang Hai Chao became a celebrity, with investors lining up to give him money. But the two didn't slow down, working overtime to get the commercial license. Li Dong Sheng felt bad for them and advised them to pace themselves. After getting married, Liu Han was so busy with work that she neglected her wife Mi Lan Da, which weighed heavily on her.
Just as success was within reach, Liu Han suddenly collapsed and died while jogging with Mi Lan Da. Zhang Hai Chao was devastated, and no amount of comforting from Huang Lin Xi helped. Li Dong Sheng was furious, blaming everything on Zhang Hai Chao, and had Huang Lin Xi console Mi Lan Da.
When Mi Lan Da returned to the office and saw Liu Han's belongings, she couldn't stop the tears from flowing. Zhang Hai Chao knelt in front of Liu Han's desk, utterly remorseful. Mi Lan Da directly blamed him for Liu Han's death. Zhang Hai Chao was wracked with guilt, unable to sleep at night.
Huang Lin Xi was worried about Mi Lan Da, so she had her stay at Ou Yang Zi Xia's place. Huang Lin Xi then vented to Ou Yang Zi Xia about how Zhang Hai Chao had been working himself to the bone, relying on sleeping pills just to get any rest.
Li Dong Sheng was adamant that Zhang Hai Chao was the root cause and refused to forgive him. Liu Han's passing had made Zhang Hai Chao the target of everyone's criticism, with people calling him a "heartless boss." But he didn't care about that - all he felt was guilt towards Liu Han and hatred towards Huang Zhong Kai.
He swore to acquire Huang Zhong Kai's company, making Ling Tong the best in the world at producing top-tier chips, as a way to appease Liu Han's spirit. He even volunteered to take over Liu Han's role as Chief Technology Officer, with Huang Lin Xi continuing as Sales Director and Jiang Wei as Deputy GM.
However, Ou Yang Zi Xia firmly disagreed, and Zhang Hai Chao went over her head to report it, enraging her. On Huang Zhong Kai's side, things were a mess too - his short-selling of Ling Tong had failed, and now the US headquarters was giving him trouble.
Huang Lin Xi then received news that her mentor had passed away. She wanted to ask Zhang Hai Chao for leave to go to the US for the funeral, but he was too busy with meetings to notice her message. She had no choice but to go home and book a flight for the next day.
Li Dong Sheng tried to calm Zhang Hai Chao down, saying that Liu Han's wish was for family happiness, not to be a workaholic. But Zhang Hai Chao wouldn't listen, and the two ended up in a quarrel over it.
