Episode 5 recap: Bai Li Dong Jun Thinks He's in Trouble and Quickly Goes to Find His Shifu
In Episode 5, the outcome of the duel between Bai Li Dong Jun and Ye Ding Zhi was unexpected - the two ended in a draw, shocking the onlookers. Ye Ding Zhi upheld his end of the bet and handed over his sword to Bai Li Dong Jun, but the puzzling part was that Wen Jiu Hu then discarded the sword and hastily left with Bai Li Dong Jun.
Bai Li Dong Jun was confused by his uncle's sudden actions, and Wen Jiu Hu warned him not to be attached to material things. As they were leaving, Ye Ding Zhi stopped the pursuing guards, indicating he still had unfinished business.
Bai Li Dong Jun and Ye Ding Zhi share a deep friendship, having been good friends since childhood, dreaming of becoming people of worth and making a mark in the jianghu world with their wine and sword. However, the turmoil in Ye Ding Zhi's family, which resulted in his whole family being ransacked, has left an indelible scar on his heart.
One night, Ye Ding Zhi was drinking alone, reminiscing about the past. His friend Wang Yi Xing kept him company, and though they didn't directly mention Bai Li Dong Jun, they both knew what was on each other's minds.
At this time, Bai Li Dong Jun was awakened by Wen Jiu Hu, still gripping the sword. Wen Jiu Hu told him that the one who had come to retrieve him had arrived, and inquired about the origins of the Xichuan Sword Song. Before Bai Li Dong Jun could respond, he was taken away by General Chen Sheng, who turned out to be his own grandfather.
Bai Li Dong Jun's father, Bai Li Cheng Feng, rushed to the scene and got into an argument with his son. Bai Li Dong Jun's mother calmly asked Wen Jiu Hu about the sword. Wen Jiu Hu explained that he did not take the sword, but that Bai Li Dong Jun had taken it himself.
When they realized the sword was the Xichuan Sword Song, Bai Li Dong Jun's sister stood up from her chair in shock.
While reviewing memorials, Tai An Di was surprised to learn that the Xichuan Sword Song had resurfaced, and that the user was Bai Li Dong Jun. Lei Meng Sha recounted his encounter with Bai Li Dong Jun to Xiao Ruo Feng, expressing his amazement that Bai Li Dong Jun knew the Xichuan Sword Song.
Bai Li Dong Jun was locked in the woodshed, reminiscing about his childhood experience of accidentally stumbling into his shifu's array formation. Though he had no initial interest in martial arts, he was drawn in by the fragrance of wine and thus became his shifu's disciple. He regretted causing his shifu trouble due to his drunkenness. Bai Li Cheng Feng had originally planned to discipline his son, but changed his attitude after learning that Bai Li Dong Jun knew the Xichuan Sword Song.
Bai Li Dong Jun fell asleep in the woodshed and was rescued by his grandfather. He was unfazed by his father's scolding. When his mother asked about his experience in the bamboo forest, he felt tired and evaded the question.
Bai Li Dong Jun found his shifu, worried that he had caused him trouble. The shifu stated that he had never taught Bai Li Dong Jun any sword techniques, but Bai Li Dong Jun felt that he had somehow innately known these sword arts. The shifu gave him a sword and predicted that he would one day understand its significance.
