Episode 21 recap: Liu Qi Meng and Sun Kai Finally Reunite
In episode 21, on the banks of the Yangtze River, Yu Chang Jiang sat in front of the recording camera despite the excruciating pain in his body. He tried to sound upbeat as he meticulously recorded a message for Grandma Liu Xiu Ying and the neighbors. He didn't want everyone to worry. He carefully laid out his final wishes, entrusting his belongings to Old Wang, and even joked that when he's gone, everyone should remember to bring drinks to the gathering, and not just mope around - after all, it's inevitable that one day we all must part ways, so it's important to cherish the present.
At the funeral, Old Wang was impeccably dressed, determined to give Yu Chang Jiang a proper and dignified sendoff. The neighbors came, each bringing something Yu Chang Jiang had enjoyed in life, expressing their fond memories and reluctance to part with him. Grandma Liu Xiu Ying stood at Yu Chang Jiang's grave, her emotions complex. She was grateful for his kindness, but also understood that their fated connection, like a missed train, could never be reclaimed. She gently placed a rose, silently wishing him to find true happiness in the afterlife. One by one, the neighbors bid Yu Chang Jiang farewell, wishing him a peaceful journey.
Back home, Grandma Liu Xiu Ying couldn't stop reminiscing about the happy times she had shared with Yu Chang Jiang, unable to hold back her tears. Old Wang too, despite dressing in new clothes, could no longer muster a genuine smile. He could no longer give his old friend Yu Chang Jiang a haircut, a loss that had him weeping for a long time while holding Ah Juan.
Seeing her grandmother this way, Liu Qi Meng's heart was heavy. She comforted Grandma, who in turn encouraged her to live freely, not to be weighed down by regrets like she was.
Just then, Jiang Wen sent a photo with Sun Kai, clarifying that they were merely cousins. Relief washed over Liu Qi Meng, and she excitedly went to find Sun Kai. Wang Yi Ming was full of praise for Sun Kai, but Sun Kai's main concern was his date with Liu Qi Meng. They reunited with their childhood toys, their hearts finally drawn closely together, unwilling to let this connection slip away.
As for Xiao Yang, Old Wang observed the boy's recent changes with joy in his heart. Xiao Yang started showing more care for Grandma Liu Xiu Ying, his growth stemming from the realization of the preciousness of family after Yu Chang Jiang's passing. Old Wang and Ah Juan also visited the dance troupe to support their family members in rehearsals.
The elders were all working hard, but Grandma Liu Xiu Ying struggled a bit due to her lack of experience. Though slightly disappointed, the dance teacher still encouraged her to keep practicing.
After rehearsal, a call from Fei Fei summoned Grandma Liu Xiu Ying to a bar. Fei Fei was inconsolable, claiming Wang Yi Ming had abandoned her. She didn't even recognize the "Liu Qi Meng" in front of her as her own grandmother, just needing a shoulder to lean on. Grandma Liu Xiu Ying silently kept her company, listening to her cries, her own heart heavy but knowing Fei Fei needed her presence and empathy most at that moment.
