Episode 23 recap: Liu Xiu Ying's Recollection of Her Past with Cheng Hua Jun
In episode 23, when Liu Qi Meng was young, her curiosity got the better of her. While her grandmother was away, she secretly opened her grandmother's precious box. Inside, she found an old photo of her grandfather, Cheng Hua Jun, who looked handsome and youthful. Excited, Liu Qi Meng immediately drew a picture of her grandfather.
When Liu Xiu Ying, the grandmother, returned home, Liu Qi Meng proudly showed off her "masterpiece." However, upon seeing the photo, Liu Xiu Ying's expression became serious, and she told Liu Qi Meng not to touch her box again, as it contained her cherished memories.
The day of the competition arrived, and the 50,000-member dance troupe finally took the stage. These lively grandmothers dazzled the audience with their vibrant dance moves, impressing even their neighbors who came to watch. The competition was fierce, ending in a tie, requiring a tiebreaker round. At this moment, Liu Xiu Ying stepped forward, determined to perform the dance she had loved in her youth, using her memories to captivate the audience.
As the music played, Liu Xiu Ying seemed transformed. Though her body was no longer as agile, each movement was filled with emotion and stories. She felt transported back to her days in the dance troupe, recalling the scenes of being ostracized and missing her chance with Cheng Hua Jun. But Liu Xiu Ying did not falter; she used her performance to convey that while time may take away one's youth, it cannot diminish the love and dedication for dance.
As the performance ended, Cheng Hua Jun unexpectedly appeared in the audience, and their eyes met, tears welling up as they were transported back to the past.
After the competition, Liu Xiu Ying sat down with Liu Qi Meng and began to recount the long-buried story. It turned out that in her youth, Liu Xiu Ying, then known as Li Xiu Qin, had met Cheng Hua Jun when he bravely stood up to two thugs who were harassing her. Despite being beaten, Cheng Hua Jun's courage had touched Li Xiu Qin, and the two grew close, often conversing and developing deeper feelings. However, due to the times, Cheng Hua Jun never had the courage to confess his love. Later, Li Xiu Qin left the dance troupe due to unfair treatment and was even dismissed because of a friend's issue, forcing her to return to her hometown, heartbroken. Cheng Hua Jun had promised to accompany her, but he was unable to fulfill that promise, devastating Li Xiu Qin.
Hearing her grandmother's story, Liu Qi Meng felt deeply saddened by her grandmother's mistreatment. But Liu Xiu Ying simply smiled and said, "Those are all events of the past, and now I look back on them as precious memories. I changed my name to Liu Xiu Ying to register my daughter's father, but I never forgot Cheng Hua Jun. I've wondered if he had his reasons for not coming to find me, but now it's all in the past, and this is our fate."
Liu Xiu Ying's words moved Liu Qi Meng to tears, and she tightly embraced her grandmother, feeling the timeless affection and strength.
In the end, the 50,000-member dance troupe won the competition, thanks to Liu Xiu Ying's outstanding performance. Everyone celebrated the hard-earned victory. Although Cheng Hua Jun's illness prevented him from clearly recognizing Li Xiu Qin, the timeless emotions between them had become one of the most precious memories of his life.
