Episode 2 recap: Xu Mu Sees Through Xie Shi's Identity
In episode 2, one night, Xu Mu felt a bit off and bought some medicine, but the label said "caution for those with allergies." When Xie Shi randomly brought up Xu Mu's fainting spell in high school, she realized he was just teasing her. Xu Mu explained that her comment about not recognizing him at the BBQ place was just an offhand remark, and they laughed it off.
Hungry, Xie Shi took Xu Mu out to eat, and his posture waiting outside the restaurant reminded Xu Mu of their high school days. After the meal, Xu Mu complained to Song Nian Nian about Xie Shi's teasing and how he asked her to buy him a gift. Song Nian Nian suggested a tie, but when Xu Mu went to pay, a flirty woman showed up and called out to Xie Shi. Song Nian Nian made an excuse to leave, and Xie Shi had Xu Mu help him get rid of the woman, which she reluctantly did.
Afterwards, the server brought the packaged tie with Xie Shi's name on the card, creating an awkward situation. But Xie Shi suddenly announced that Xu Mu was his girlfriend, and the woman stormed off. Exasperated, Xu Mu was then dragged by Xie Shi to a fancy restaurant, but she managed to slip away.
Meanwhile, Song Nian Nian's novel was being sold for publishing rights, much to her delight. Shen Yi, working his way up at his father's company, was teased by coworkers for sharing a name with the novel's antagonist. To his surprise, the author was also named Song Jinxin, the same as the girl he had argued with in high school over a novel.
Song Nian Nian and Shen Yi accidentally ran into each other, and Shen Yi complimented her novel, thinking Shen Yi was a fan. When Shen Yi gave his real name during the autograph, Song Nian Nian complained to Xu Mu, and Shen Yi complained to Xie Shi, both thinking the other was an annoying rival.
Though they found each other attractive, their confrontational history made them wary. Shen Yi was staying at Xie Shi's café, working on an AI system that Xie Shi had invested in, which Shen Yi was deeply grateful for.
Back home, Xu Mu's roommate was causing a ruckus again, and her mother was pestering her about blind dates. At work the next day, Xu Mu's coworkers knew she and Xie Shi were high school classmates, and she shared their "tragic backstory" with them. Xie Shi would often ask Xu Mu for help at work, and she took the opportunity to get back at him, much to their amused coworkers' delight.
On the day of the inn's grand opening, Xu Mu was busy running around, and Xie Shi came to inspect everything, satisfied with it all, though he didn't say much. When the power suddenly went out, Xu Mu calmly activated the emergency plan, using aurora projection to entertain the guests, earning thunderous applause. The director announced the inn was a hit, and at the celebratory party, Xu Mu's coworkers played truth or dare, forcing her to hug the first person who came in, which ended up being the tipsy Xu Mu embracing Xie Shi, much to his delight.
