Episode 2 recap: Chen Wei Lan Misses Out on the National Youth Team, Li Guo Duo Struggles to Afford Tuition
In the second episode, during the awards ceremony, even though Lange Yuting had a hint of displeasure on her face, she couldn't hide her competitive spirit as she intently watched the players from Beijing No. 8 Middle School. Everyone understood that deep down, everyone wants to stand on that highest podium and bask in the glory. But at the end of the day, even losing can be honorable, as long as you've given your all.
When the host announced that Beijing No. 8 Middle School was the champion, their team was truly unstoppable, with thunderous applause and cheers. Then came the highlight of the event - the Most Valuable Player award. To Chen Wei Lan's surprise, the trophy was awarded to Lange Yuting. Before that, Chen Wei Lan had been confident that she would be the one to receive this honor, so the disappointment she felt when she saw the award go to Lange Yuting was palpable. She could only manage a forced smile and congratulate Lange Yuting on regaining her pride.
After the match, the coach of the national youth team took notice of Yang Li Yun from Tianjin No. 1 Middle School, which left Chen Wei Lan feeling uneasy, as if she had swallowed a fly. She went straight to the coach and demanded an explanation, but the coach simply said, "I have my considerations," without going into further details, leaving Chen Wei Lan frustrated with no outlet for her anger.
Although they had won the championship, Chen Wei Lan was still unsure about the sports university scholarship, and came home with a gloomy expression, like a frost-bitten eggplant. Her mother, who was about to go out for a social event, was actually pleased to hear that her daughter's plan had not materialized, saying she had always wanted Chen Wei Lan to focus on the college entrance exam and become a lawyer or something similar.
Feeling dejected, Chen Wei Lan went out with a few friends to a bar for a drink. Coincidentally, Gao Ge and Xia Li Qiang from New Port University were also there, and the two got into a heated discussion about volleyball techniques, which eventually escalated into a physical altercation. Chen Wei Lan's friends were unfortunately caught in the crossfire, and she quickly recorded a video, planning to settle the score with them later.
Just as the commotion was settled, Chen Wei Lan received a special admission notice from New Port University. At the same time, Li Guo Duo also received a notice, but the tuition fee became a problem. Unwilling to burden her family, she turned to Shao Nian for help.
Shao Nian, being quick-witted, heard about a beach volleyball tournament at the Golden Fortune Hotel, with a grand prize of 10,000 yuan. He immediately recruited Gao Ge and Chen Wei Lan to form a team. When Chen Wei Lan visited her grandfather, he also brought up the tournament and enthusiastically urged her to go watch the competition.
During the match, Li Guo Duo and Gao Ge worked together seamlessly, seeming poised to win the championship trophy. Chen Wei Lan spotted the person from the bar fight on the court and couldn't help but feel disdainful. After the match, Gao Ge playfully hit Chen Wei Lan with a volleyball, challenging her to a rematch to determine the better player.
Chen Wei Lan, never one to back down, just needed a partner. Seeing Shao Nian there idling, she decided to team up with him, despite his lack of volleyball knowledge. However, with Chen Wei Lan's skills and Shao Nian's quick reflexes, they managed to win another match. Chen Wei Lan then returned the favor, hitting Gao Ge with a volleyball and walked away coolly as he collected the prize money.
On the way home, Li Guo Duo lavished praise on Chen Wei Lan, but the tuition issue still weighed heavily on her mind. Seeing this, Shao Nian offered the prize money to her, but Li Guo Duo stubbornly refused to accept it. Shao Nian then said it was a loan, and she reluctantly agreed to take it.
When Chen Wei Lan returned home, her grandfather encouraged her not to be held back by wins or losses, but to keep moving forward. Chen Wei Lan readily agreed, saying she would continue to play volleyball.
