Episode 10 recap: Arriving at the Capital but Failing to See the Qin King
Lv Jing raced back to the bustling capital city of Da Tong in the blink of an eye. The people of the city were ecstatic to hear that the Qin King had returned victorious from battle. Crowds lined the streets, eagerly awaiting his arrival. Even the bashful young ladies couldn't contain their excitement, showering the roads with fruits as an eager display of affection.
The city was abuzz with celebratory spirit, like the atmosphere of the New Year. When Lv Jing returned to the palace, he reported the situation to the King. Interestingly, Lv Jing had previously been a general who advocated for more conquests, but this time he argued against the war with Fushi, saying it was unethical and could jeopardize future trade relations. The King, rather than rushing to a decision, said the matter needed careful consideration.
Meanwhile, Prince Lv Hou, who had failed in his disaster relief efforts, was pleading with the King. But the King swiftly reassigned the task to Prince Lv Ke, dismissing the two princes. The King then purposefully kept Lv Jing behind, hinting that there was more to the situation.
Prince Lv Hou, being cunning, tried to sow discord between Lv Ke and Lv Jing, hoping to win Lv Ke to his side. But the easygoing Lv Ke had no interest in getting involved. On another front, the Qin King, eager to ensure the smooth marriage alliance with the Kingdom of Changsheng, instructed the Counselor Lv Jingwei to carefully choose an auspicious date, warning him to be cautious.
The Counselor found this puzzling, as the marriage had already been arranged. Little did he know, the Changsheng Princess was reluctantly dragging her feet on the journey, using illness as an excuse. Although the physician Liu was unfazed, he was eventually alarmed when he discovered the Princess was genuinely ill.
Meanwhile, Princess Lv Guan was busy overseeing construction projects while also implementing a "Four Seasons Order" that was popular with the common people, much to the envy of the old ministers.
Lv Jing, upon hearing that the Changsheng Princess was ill, rushed to see her. He knew she was feigning sickness and playfully threatened to punish the physician, causing the Princess to admit she had recovered. But fate had other plans, and the Princess did indeed fall genuinely ill. Lv Jing decided to postpone his departure, staying at the inn to care for her recovery before continuing on to the capital.
When the Princess finally arrived in Da Tong, she nervously faced the two Princes, unsure which one was her future husband, the Qin King. At the welcoming banquet, the Qin King did not appear, leaving the Princess feeling lonely and out of place in this unfamiliar land, with even her companion Yian absent. But she steeled herself to face what lay ahead, hoping to find peace and happiness in this foreign kingdom, despite the uncertainty.
The Qin King, though absent, had arranged for the Princess to be housed in a lavishly beautiful palace, hinting that he might be the gentle and kind-hearted man Yian had described. With courage, the Princess resolved to embrace the future, whatever it may hold.
