Episode 12 recap: The Capricious Princess of Changsheng
In Episode 12, by the pond, Princess Lv Guan's calm demeanor was starkly different from Xiao Zi Lv's urgent and agitated state. Xiao Zi Lv immediately started lecturing Lv Guan, urging her not to do anything foolish. Lv Guan's heart was filled with complex emotions - she wanted to speak but also couldn't be bothered. The misunderstanding between them felt as deep and unfathomable as the pond itself, making communication difficult.
Changsheng returned from Muyan Forest, still not having fully processed her personal matters, but she was consistently polite and respectful towards Lv Jing. Lv Jing, being attentive, informed Changsheng about an upcoming grand banquet and expressed concern that someone might try to sabotage her. Rather than being frightened, Changsheng was excited, saying she would prepare a performance as a way to avoid trouble.
As for Lv Guan, Xiao Zi Lv's sudden concern made her suspicious, so she ordered her subordinates to investigate his background. Changsheng, on the other hand, was busy making arrangements, instructing her confidants Jin Yan and Shen Xing to find assistants, as she plotted her own schemes.
At the evening banquet, the King brought Changsheng to meet the royal family, the scene being quite grand, but there were also undercurrents of intrigue. The palace ladies gossiped, comparing Changsheng to a woman named Ru Jing, their words dripping with jealousy and challenge. However, Changsheng paid little heed to these comments.
The highlight of the banquet came when someone suggested that Changsheng perform. Both the King and Xiao Zi Lv tried to intervene, but to no avail, and a commotion ensued. Unfazed, Changsheng took the stage and showcased her remarkable dance skills, even incorporating painting techniques. But midway through, a pearl came flying towards her, nearly causing her to fall, only to be saved by the quick reflexes of the King. Yet the troubles did not end there, as someone criticized her dancing. Fortunately, with Lv Jing's support, Changsheng was able to smooth things over, and the banquet concluded on a positive note.
Afterwards, Lv Guan secretly discovered that Xiao Zi Lv was an envoy from the Fuyu Kingdom. Given her own ailing health and the need to visit the imperial physician during the Lichun festival, it seemed Lv Guan's destiny with Xiao Zi Lv was unavoidable. As for the incident with the pearl, Lv Jing already knew who was behind it and immediately strengthened the security to protect Changsheng.
Xiao Zi Lv angrily confronted Lv Jing, but was quickly dismissed. The King even took the opportunity to impart a lesson, saying that some missed chances cannot be reclaimed, no matter how much one pursues them.
That evening, Changsheng dined with Lv Jing, who had personally prepared each course with great care. Changsheng sensed a change in Lv Jing and was willing to trust him. They agreed to never lie to each other again. Afterwards, Lv Jing pretended to be drunk, and Changsheng, despite her initial reluctance, ended up supporting him back to his room. This brought them closer.
The next morning, Changsheng was embarrassed, but Lv Jing was delighted, playfully teasing her. Back in her own courtyard, Changsheng's mind was in a whirl, so she turned to reciting scriptures to calm herself. There, she found a letter from Yian, warming her heart, though she didn't express it outwardly. Jin Yan and Shen Xing, who witnessed this, silently smiled, determined to guard this secret.
