Episode 17 recap: The Plot to Invade Fuzhu Discovered
In episode 17, the restoration of the Buddhist scriptures at the Zen monastery has been completed, and a copy has been made. King Datang orders Lv Guan to return the scriptures to the monastery. Accompanying Lv Guan on this mission are Changsheng, Xiao Zi Lv, and Lv Jing. Changsheng is still feeling awkward about Lv Jing's kiss the previous night, and tries to ride with Lv Guan, but Lv Jing prevents this, wanting Xiao Zi Lv and the Princess to spend more time together, so Xiao Zi Lv ends up riding with the Princess while Lv Jing rides with Changsheng.
On the carriage ride, Xiao Zi Lv hears Lv Guan coughing and expresses concern, but since Lv Guan's previous advances were rejected, Lv Guan politely declines Xiao Zi Lv's concern. Upon arriving at the monastery, the abbot invites them to tour the restored grounds. Xiao Zi Lv is interested to hear there is an unsolved century-old puzzle in the monastery, while Changsheng, who had not rested well the previous night, just wants to find a guest room to rest.
After resting, Changsheng comes out to see Lv Jing flying a kite, which she finds amusing, and Lv Jing patiently teaches her. Xiao Zi Lv and the Princess become deeply engrossed in a chess game. The kite gets caught in a "marriage tree", and rather than let Lv Jing recklessly retrieve it, Changsheng ties another kite to it so they are paired. Lv Jing lifts Changsheng up to get the kites, and they nearly fall. In the commotion, Changsheng accidentally pulls down a red string with a note, just as Lv Jing is summoned back to the palace. Changsheng is told the marriage tree is auspicious for relationships.
The king only summons three princes - Lv Ke, Lv Jing, and Lv Hu - to the palace, leaving You Yong and You Mou behind to escort Changsheng back. At the Qin王 residence, Changsheng finds a box containing the invasion plan for Fuzhu while making a bracelet from the red string.
The king questions the three princes about Lv Jing's proposal to cancel the Fuzhu invasion plan. Lv Ke and Lv Hu want to proceed with the invasion, but Lv Jing argues that after the defeat of Da Yu, Datang needs rest, and that they have already married into Fuzhu, so an invasion would be a betrayal. The king is persuaded, and cancels the invasion order. Lv Ke is outwardly agreeable but secretly very displeased.
You Mou delivers food to Changsheng as requested by Lv Jing, but Changsheng doesn't touch it. When Lv Jing goes to find Changsheng, she is nowhere to be found. Lv Jing searches the kitchen but can't find her. Questioning You Yong and You Mou, he learns Changsheng went to his study, where he finds the invasion plan is missing - Changsheng has seen it and taken it, though she has not left the residence yet. Lv Jing deduces Changsheng must have gone to the Wen Academy, which has been vacant, so Lv Guan arranges a room there for Changsheng to stay in temporarily.
The next day, when Lv Jing goes to the Wen Academy, the Princess says it is closed for the day. Lv Jing is eager to find Changsheng and clear up the misunderstanding, but Lv Guan advises him to think it through carefully. Meanwhile, in a conversation with Lv Guan, Xiao Zi Lv is suddenly surprised when Lv Guan unexpectedly kisses him. Shaken, Xiao Zi Lv then goes to see Changsheng, but can't stop thinking about Lv Guan's kiss and hurries away.
