Episode 18 recap: Xiao Zi Lv Develops Feelings for Lv Guan
In Episode 18, Lv Jing went to Liang Yuan Ge and spent a lot of money to try to reconcile with Liu Chang Sheng. After receiving some advice from the owner, he quickly understood the situation and left. But as soon as he left, the owner was knocked out by some mysterious figures and taken away.
Lv Ke and Ge'er figured out that Lv Jing had a falling out with Liu Chang Sheng, and guessed that Chang Sheng might have stormed off in a fit of anger.
Lv Jing, being clever, wrote poems on kites and flew them all over the city, trying to cheer up Liu Chang Sheng. Lv Ke also got in on the act, secretly mixing in some unsigned kites. Soon, the whole city was abuzz with rumors that the stubborn Liu Chang Sheng had run away after a fight with Lv Jing.
When Chang Sheng received the kites and saw that some had names and some didn't, she realized someone was up to something behind the scenes. The Crown Princess secretly told Chang Sheng that Lv Jing had come to the palace the previous night, actually to suggest not interfering with Fuu Zhi. Xiao Zi Lv then took Chang Sheng out to the street, where they coincidentally encountered Lv Jing flying kites on the city wall, trying to make amends.
Chang Sheng went up and asked Lv Jing if she could still trust him. Lv Jing sincerely said the warlike Qin King was gone and he now only had eyes for Chang Sheng. Softened, Chang Sheng forgave them and they flew a blessing kite together.
Xiao Zi Lv spotted Lv Guan in the crowd and wanted to talk to her, but Lv Guan tried to avoid him. So Lv Jing helped them arrange an "accidental" encounter. Xiao Zi Lv took Lv Guan to watch a performance, hoping to make her laugh, but ended up taking a tumble himself, which amused Lv Guan instead, leading to an awkward yet comical scene.
Meanwhile, Dong Pei's region was hit by a locust plague. The Great Whang King, worried about the impact on his own lands, asked Lv Jing for help. Lv Jing said they should assist with disaster relief, turning weapons into tools, which would benefit the Great Whang. The kite incident didn't ruin Lv Jing, but instead led him to take on the pest control task, much to Lv Ke's frustration.
Ge'er worried Lv Jing wouldn't be skilled at locust control, but Lv Ke revealed that Lv Jing had hired the expert Huai Shan to help. Huai Shan's granddaughter Ru Jing had a long history with Lv Jing, so he was able to quickly reach out to Huai Shan.
Ge'er started plotting, thinking she could use Ru Jing to stir up Liu Chang Sheng, since the Fuu Zhi rules were different from the Great Whang's, and Chang Sheng might not accept two women sharing one husband.
Just as Lv Jing was about to tell Chang Sheng about Ru Jing's return, Xiao Zi Lv came to him. Xiao Zi Lv had been avoiding Lv Guan after overhearing her strange laughter, so he asked Lv Jing to help arrange a meeting. Lv Jing set it up, and Xiao Zi Lv tried to entertain Lv Guan with a performance, but ended up making a fool of himself, which surprisingly amused Lv Guan. She got embarrassed and ran off, but Xiao Zi Lv chased after her and confessed his sincere feelings, even if it came out messily.
On another front, Lv Jing had Chang Sheng, in her role as the Whang's wife, welcome Huai Shan, and personally taught her the Whang's etiquette. A small misunderstanding occurred, with the Crown Princess supposedly in trouble, but it turned out to be just a mistake.
Chang Sheng's matron attire was too old-fashioned, so Lv Guan had someone bring her a new outfit, and the next day personally tutored Chang Sheng on proper manners, showing great care and attention.
