Episode 22 recap: Trials and Tribulations Give Way to a Joyous Wedding

In Episode 22, Lv Jing returned from the brink of death. The King was overjoyed, not only restoring Lv Jing's title as Prince, but also bestowing upon him a precious jade amulet, granting him the same privileges as the Crown Prince. With the locust plague now under control, the responsibility for managing the disaster relief effort was again entrusted to Lv Jing. Although Lv Guan tried to remind the King to investigate why Lv Jing had been targeted for assassination, the King cut her off, confident that Lv Jing had a bright future ahead of him, while Long Sheng's personality was not well-suited for the role of Chief Consort.

Lv Jing, however, had his heart set on choosing Long Sheng as his partner. Upon his return, their reunion at the Prince's residence was a heartwarming affair. It emerged that on the day of the assassination attempt, Lv Jing had miraculously survived the fall off the cliff and drifted down the river to a village where the residents had been secretly hoarding grain to protect against the locust plague - a scheme likely orchestrated by Lv Ke. Lv Jing promptly confronted Lv Ke and demanded the return of the grain.

Lv Jing then threw himself wholeheartedly into the disaster relief efforts, opening up granaries and soothing the concerns of the common people. His excellent work soon brought the locust plague under control, and the King celebrated with a grand banquet. There, the King hinted that he might designate Lv Jing as the Crown Prince, leaving Lv Ke worried that this was the King's intention.

Lv Jing, however, was in no rush to make any declarations, as he was still upset with Lv Ke's actions. He tasked Long Sheng with finding a suitable husband for Lady Ru Jing, leading to some playful banter between Long Sheng and Xiao Zi Lv about their matchmaking expertise. Long Sheng even tried to orchestrate a scenario where Lv Jing would pretend to court Ru Jing, only to purposefully perform poorly, causing Ru Jing to lose interest. But Ru Jing surprised everyone by wholeheartedly embracing the prospect of marrying Lv Jing, much to his chagrin.

Meanwhile, the guilt-ridden Lv Ke was plagued by nightmares of Lv Jing and Long Sheng becoming the King and Queen, and he plotted to strike first. However, the Prince's residence was abuzz with preparations for the grand wedding, leaving Lv Ke with little opportunity to act. Long Sheng, who had previously dreaded the idea of marriage, now saw it as a profound undertaking, but was overjoyed to have found a love like Lv Jing. The two had been through so much, and now their long-awaited union was finally coming to fruition. Lv Jing even went so far as to extend invitations to Chang Le Wang and Xiao Jin, further filling Long Sheng's heart with happiness.
