Episode 8 recap: Chang Sheng's Long-Distance Marriage to Da Tang for Political Alliance
In episode 8, Xian Gui Fei specifically came to bring gifts to Chang Sheng, saying she was grateful for Chang Sheng's tolerance and magnanimity, because this allowed Guang De to continue staying by her side. When Chang Le Wang Fei heard this, she flew into a rage and directly scolded Xian Gui Fei, then hugged Chang Sheng and cried inconsolably.
The queen had only this one beloved daughter, how could she bear to let her go so far away to Da Tang? After seeing Xian Gui Fei off, Chang Sheng specially apologized to the queen on the queen's behalf. Luckily, Gui Fei was an understanding person and didn't take it to heart.
The envoys from Da Tang were about to depart, with only a day left. Xian Gui Fei said she would try her best to help and see if the marriage alliance decision could be changed.
As for Lv Jing, he also deeply understood Chang Sheng's feelings, but simply said lightly, "Whether you go or stay is up to you."
At the Chang Le Wang manor, the king and queen were crying their hearts out. In the end, the king had no choice but to go to the emperor. These past few days, the emperor had been pestered by all sorts of people pleading for Chang Sheng - Shen Shou, Yang Wu Lang, Guang De, Zhao Huai Bi, as well as Xian Gui Fei and Chang Le Wang.
Pushed to the limit, the emperor directly declared that Chang Sheng would not be allowed to marry into Da Tang, even if it meant going to war with Da Tang. But this only made Chang Le Wang even more determined to send Chang Sheng for the marriage alliance, saying it was for the country's interests and he had no choice. He left wiping away tears, muttering apologies to Chang Sheng.
Back at the manor, the queen was both angry and anxious. Seeing this, Chang Sheng hurriedly asked about her father's situation. The queen said the most important thing now was to keep Chang Sheng safe and not let her go for the marriage. That's when the queen saw Lv Jing by Chang Sheng's side, and suddenly had an idea - have Lv Jing marry into the Chang Le Wang household, then Chang Sheng wouldn't have to go for the marriage alliance.
The queen personally went to talk to Lv Jing about this, then exaggeratedly told Chang Sheng that Lv Jing was very happy about it. Chang Sheng had no choice but to dress up according to her mother's wishes, which ended up making Lv Jing smile. But Chang Sheng knew deep down that there was no escaping the marriage.
Lv Jing wanted to buy Chang Sheng a mirror as a gift before leaving, so he went shopping with his attendants. On the way, he overheard a father-daughter conversation, and couldn't help but think of Chang Sheng, feeling conflicted. He began to worry that Chang Sheng might be the type who could only marry someone she liked.
On the other side, Xiao Jin had also come to an understanding, and urged Xiao Zi Lv to confess to Chang Sheng.
Xiao Zi Lv actually gathered the courage to do so. Though at first Chang Sheng thought he was just pulling another trick, this time Xiao Zi Lv was serious. He said that if Chang Sheng was willing to marry him, he would cherish her for life.
Knowing Lv Jing was about to leave, Chang Sheng had prepared a gift for him in advance. On the street, she also ran into Qin Xin and accepted the makeup knife she offered. Seeing the knife, Lv Jing was frightened, thinking Chang Sheng wanted to commit suicide. He quickly snatched it away and threw it. He was about to tell Chang Sheng his true identity, but she just laughed, saying the knife was just a gift and she had no thoughts of suicide.
This commotion actually threw the distant Prince Qin into a state of disorder.
Xiao Zi Lv, on the other hand, was drowning his sorrows in alcohol, and the next day wanted to go to the palace again to beg the emperor to retract the order, but was stopped by his mother Xiao and Xiao Jin. In the end, Xiao Zi Lv did go to the palace, but the emperor didn't see him, because Chang Le Wang had already made his decision.
When it was Lv Jing's turn to pay respects to the emperor, the emperor asked if Chang Sheng was willing to marry into Da Tang. Chang Sheng herself stepped forward resolutely and stated that she was willing to go through with the marriage alliance for the peace of the country.
