Episode 13 recap: Zeng Ziqian Gets Arrested
In Episode 13, Cheng Lang and Wang Jing investigated the neighbors around Li Shuren's home. The neighbors all said the couple had a very good relationship and were very friendly with everyone. They didn't owe money to anyone and didn't have any feuds, so everyone was puzzled as to why such a nice family was killed.
Wang Jing reported that Li Shuren had caught some thieves before and had gotten into a few altercations with them, but the person who fought with Li Shuren had an alibi and wasn't in Hong Kong at the time of the murder.
Cheng Lang expressed frustration that such a good person was brazenly stabbed to death in broad daylight - it was truly baffling. Based on the crime scene evidence, Jing Haoran deduced that the real killer was Jiao Dawei, targeting Li Shuren.
Nearby, people recalled a similar indiscriminate killing spree from 15 years ago, where all the victims' families also had alibis.
Wang Jing told Jing Haoran that Li Shuren and his wife had a very good relationship, and were a childless but financially stable couple.
Jing Haoran felt the case had suddenly become more complex. Fan Peiqing told him the victim was clearly killed by a military-style knife, and they were able to reconstruct a model of the weapon. Jing Haoran recognized it as a specialized military knife - very thin and sharp, posing injury risk if used improperly.
Cheng Lang called in his friend Along to provide more details on the killer's weapon. Along said it was a rare collector's item, not something readily available on the market. Lab tests also revealed the drugs found were for treating mental illness, suggesting the killer had severe mental issues.
Yu Xingbai got help from his brother-in-law and managed to locate the killer's whereabouts. Zeng Ziqian became the police's suspect, and they rushed to the hospital where he was picking up medication. But the suspect evaded them and disappeared into the crowd.
Jing Haoran quickly had his people narrow the search, as Zeng Ziqian didn't go out much, so his movements would be limited. Fan Peiqing went to the hospital to investigate, and unexpectedly discovered that based on information from others, Ayin seemed to have some kind of illness.
Fan Peiqing suddenly sensed something was off, and directly met with Ayin. She asked if the medication had side effects, and Ayin calmly stated that when her father used to take the drug, she didn't pay much attention and didn't notice any abnormal behavior.
The police found Zeng Ziqian, who clearly had no intention of fleeing, and sat calmly as his father pleaded for him. Zeng Ziqian then voluntarily admitted to killing all the victims. However, Fan Peiqing felt that while the case was solved, there was no real sense of closure.
Jing Haoran also felt something was still off, even though the killer had confessed. Fan Peiqing noticed the varying degrees of knife wounds on the victims, with Li Shuren's being more severe, suggesting the killer harbored deep hatred.
Wenwen called Rick, but he didn't answer. The next day, Wenwen's fiancée came to the police station to report her missing.
Zeng Ziqian is now in a psychiatric hospital. Wang Jing felt he lacked a clear motive, so Peng Qianwen may not be in immediate danger. At the crime scene, Yu Xingbai found a lot of blood, suggesting the killer may have died there.
The police went to check the security footage, hoping to catch the suspect. They finally located the suspect vehicle, and after gathering evidence, determined the crimes were likely committed by the same person.
