Episode 14 recap: Xin Lan Confesses to Murder
Episode 14:Yu Xing Bai was in Osaka when he saw two guys bullying a girl. They looked suspicious, so he stepped in to help. The girl asked Yu Xing Bai if he knew Bao Ying and said she knew her. She invited Yu Xing Bai to have drinks with her. The girl explained that the two guys were her customers, but they had beaten her up because they thought she was a fake after seeing her plastic surgery.
Yu Xing Bai told the girl that Bao Ying was missing and he was looking for her. He said she had disappeared just like this girl and wanted to know why she had gone missing. The girl told Yu Xing Bai that she had received a letter from Bao Ying asking her to come to Japan. She went, but she was knocked unconscious and taken to a mysterious place. She saw a masked man with a knife who threatened her.
The man didn't seem to want to hurt her, but he carved a deep scar on her face. She was left on the street with the scar and tried to get help. She was taken to the hospital by nearby residents, but the doctor said the scar was permanent. She couldn't accept being disfigured, so she got plastic surgery. She went into debt because of the surgery and had to work to pay it off.
Yu Xing Bai thanked her and asked if she had been in contact with Bao Ying since then. The girl said she had contacted Bao Ying in October. Yu Xing Bai was sure that the girl was mistaken because he had been with Bao Ying in October. The girl realized she had wrongly accused Bao Ying and felt bad.
Peng Qian Mei had taken many pictures of flowers before her death. The police found her body based on these pictures. They discovered that the killer was clever and had used vacuum packaging to prevent the body from decomposing. While investigating, the police noticed a scar on Zhao Zhi Qin's arm and became suspicious. They brought him in for questioning. Zhao Zhi Qin said the scar was from a welding accident.
Fan Pei Qing performed an autopsy on Peng Qian Mei using high-tech analysis. The body had been tampered with by the killer, but the wounds showed that the weapon was likely a fruit knife or scissors. Wang Jing felt like they were completely lost in the case.
Zeng Zi Qian was angry that Jing Hao Ran was accusing him of the murder. He said he didn't even know the victim.
Yu Xing Bai felt like the case had hit a dead end. He said that people could lie, but bodies couldn't. Jing Hao Ran was also frustrated with the lack of progress. He wondered if Zeng Zi Qian had any family and tried to get information from them, but he found out he had no family. He tried to get information from Zhao Zhi Qin's sister, but that led nowhere.
Yu Xing Bai guessed the killer was about 5'7" tall. They suspected Zhao Zhi Qin's sister. They thought there must be a connection between Zeng Zi Qian and Li Shu Quan's murders. The police decided to keep investigating. Zeng Zi Qian became emotional when he heard the name Xin Lan.
Yu Xing Bai noticed that the two of them knew each other. Xin Lan and Zeng Zi Qian both had serious illnesses and were bullied by their classmates. People looked at them with hostility, so they felt a sense of shared suffering and became best friends.
However, Xin Lan's illness worsened about six months ago. Li Shu Quan knew about her illness and kept harassing her. Zeng Zi Qian knew about this and hated Li Shu Quan. He stabbed Li Shu Quan with scissors, but he also killed Jiao Da Wei by accident. Xin Lan confessed to the murders and said her brother wasn't involved.
Xin Lan said she had killed for Zeng Zi Qian in the same way he had killed for her. They both took revenge and ended up in jail. Zeng Zi Qian felt guilty about what happened.
