Episode 8 recap: The Death of Tan Bo
In Episode 8, Wang Jing was determined to contact Shi Jiaying, much to her colleague's suspicion about whether the number really belonged to Shi Jiaying. Wang Jing confidently stated that she had verified the number and it was indeed the blonde-haired girl, who simply refused to answer the call. Her curious colleague asked how Wang Jing knew the blonde-haired girl's name was Shi Jiaying, and Wang Jing proudly explained that she had found this information through online searches.
Seeing her colleague's disbelief, Wang Jing argued that Zhou Rongtian was clearly a repeat offender and must have harmed other women, so the discussion forums would likely mention these other victims. Using this logic, Wang Jing sought out Hanna to gather more information, hoping to use the psychology of the victimized girls to uncover evidence.
After Zhou Rongtian's death, Shi Jiaying had already resigned from her job and was preparing to flee, having just changed her appearance to go to Hong Kong, when Wang Jing intercepted her. Shi Jiaying explained that she had been working in that manner to earn money for her mother's medical treatment, and now that the vicious scoundrel was dead, she no longer feared anything.
Fan Pei Qing told her friend that she no longer felt the same fear towards Mr. Xian as before, and her illness seemed to have improved greatly. When the police came to question Guan Xuefly, she expressed no surprise and coolly told them that Mr. Zhou had not been using drugs, and she had no intention of killing him, even feeling nostalgic upon hearing of his death. Everyone believed this was a case of a paid murder, with a wealthy buyer.
However, they later found that Lu Yongyao had also died unexpectedly, leaving the case's leads once again cut off. The group worked through the night to try and find new clues, feeling that a mysterious mastermind was orchestrating the events.
The strange wounds on the victims were puzzling, and Tao, the company's president, discovered through repeated experiments that even water waves could be used to kill people. Lu Yongyao had purchased a phone card online to contact a mysterious person, but the card was now unusable, and the "MD" codename might be a signal or the name of an organization.
When Fan Pei Qing saw Mr. Xian looking disheveled, she was curious, not realizing he had been attacked while seeking justice, and now even lost his keys. Fan Pei Qing felt her feelings for Mr. Xian were as sweet as honey. A foul odor was emanating from Tan Bo's home, and when neighbors investigated, they found two decomposing bodies in the room.
Jing Haorang believed the homeowner was murdered for their wealth, while Fan Pei Qing speculated the deaths may have been suicides based on the scene, though further confirmation was needed. Neighbors said the stench had been present for days. Yu Xingbai felt completely lost, with no leads on the case.
The decomposition and odor were compared to a rotting whale explosion, where the large body mass would have a greater impact. Though a human body is not as large, the situation still needed to be addressed. Jing Haorang did not believe this was a case of debt collection, as the neighbors had not seen any debt collectors.
The group wanted to investigate Tan Bo's wife or daughter, Tan Shumin, and surveillance footage showed Tan Bo's wife briefly returning home the previous Wednesday before hastily leaving again. Wang Jing thought the family might be deeply troubled, though no one would likely care about their fates anymore.
