Episode 15 recap: Hugo's Journey to Singapore
Hugo and Nora meet, but are caught by Wai's father. Li Zhi Wei approaches Nicara, hoping to take Nora to Singapore to study art. Nicara refuses, stating that Nora is too old and should be married. Li Zhi Wei insists that this is simply a father's love for his child, but Nicara remains adamant.
Nora overhears the conversation. Li Zhi Wei is leaving for Singapore, and Nora secretly follows him, asking Zheng Wei Long and the others to tell Nicara that she'll be studying hard and that this is her own decision. When Nicara arrives, Zheng Wei Long informs him that Nora has stolen her passport and disappeared, likely taken by Li Zhi Wei. They demand Nora's return.
Nicara is furious at Hugo's presence, reminding him of their promise not to involve the Visan tribe in the straw mushroom project. Hugo explains he wants to earn money for Nora's tuition, but Nicara scoffs, telling him to ask his father if he'd approve of their friendship. The Visan tribe leader is enraged, furious that Hugo would associate with the daughter of his enemy.
Hugo insists on being with Nora, but the tribe leader has him imprisoned. Meanwhile, Nora arrives at Li Zhi Wei's place, stunned by the spaciousness of a woman's living space. Li Zhi Wei tells her to make herself at home, and Nora expresses her desire for independence, promising to pay rent once she earns money. Li Zhi Wei agrees.
Zheng Wei Long informs Li Zhang Huan that the research institute has called, requesting his return to discuss the aid project and to celebrate the upcoming New Year. Li Zhang Huan agrees.
Li Zhang Huan's wife and Li Qian Ping arrive to welcome him home. Li Zhi Wei calls Zhao Qi Feng, confessing her discomfort with returning to her demanding career. Zhao Qi Feng assures her it's normal, sharing his own experience of readjusting after two years in Africa.
Nora's painting sells, bringing her joy. Li Zhang Huan reports to the institute, expressing optimism about the project's success in helping locals achieve financial independence through mushroom cultivation.
Guo Chen raises concerns about the "Qing Shan No. 1" strain, noting that despite claims of winter hardiness, the crops failed, causing significant losses for farmers. He demands an explanation. Hu Yuan explains they've compensated farmers and offered free replanting, but Guo Chen argues that the team's error shouldn't be borne by the farmers.
Li Zhang Huan discusses the issue with Hu Yuan, who blames the oversight on understaffing. Li Zhang Huan decides to recruit and calls Guo Chen. Impressed by Guo Chen's research on grass cultivation and his commitment to farmers, Li Zhang Huan offers him a position on the "Qing Shan No. 1" project. Guo Chen accepts.
Lin, a businessman, visits Li Chun Hua with gifts, expressing interest in learning mushroom cultivation. Li Chun Hua explains they used to cultivate mushrooms on wood, which was cheaper but harmful to the environment. They now use straw. Lin is surprised that wood can be used and asks for information. Li Chun Hua provides him with the necessary materials.
