Episode 2 recap: Li Zhang Huan Decides to Retire
In episode 2, Zheng Wei Long was feeling frustrated, defending Li Zhang Huan and feeling sorry for the mushroom grass project. Li Zhang Huan saw all this and was conflicted, even considering giving up. But Zheng Wei Long, though he complained, still cared deeply about the project. He said he came from the countryside, knew how hard life was there, and joined Li Zhang Huan to help those poor areas. If he quit now, he wouldn't be able to accept it.
Li Zhang Huan confided in his brother Li Chang An that he was considering retirement, wanting to spend more time with his family. But he needed to pay off his debts first to feel at peace. Chang An understood - although it was hard work, this was the most rewarding time for him, and he said he would take over when Li Zhang Huan retired, no matter what.
This warmed Li Zhang Huan's heart. When he shared this plan with his family, his wife didn't believe it at first, until she saw the retirement paperwork. She was moved to tears, realizing Li Zhang Huan had been so focused on work that he hadn't spent enough time with them. Li Zhang Huan felt guilty and said he would take them on trips after retiring.
But then the leadership approached Li Zhang Huan, saying they hadn't realized his difficulties, and apologized. They had an opportunity for him - a sister-city aid project in Bama to promote the mushroom grass technology and help with poverty alleviation there. They would provide 1 million in funding over 5 phases.
Li Zhang Huan was intrigued - this could solve the problems at work and take his technology global. But then a foreign student, Wai, also asked Li Zhang Huan to promote the mushroom grass in his own country. This caused an uproar in Li's family, especially from his daughter-in-law Li Qian Ping, who firmly opposed it. Li Zhang Huan wanted to accept Wai's offer first, then figure it out, but his wife and daughter refused to agree.
Li Zhi Wei, back from abroad, also strongly disagreed, feeling Bama was too chaotic for him to go. Chang An offered to go instead, but Li Zhang Huan knew he had to handle this himself. He invited Wai over for dinner to better understand the situation there. Wai only discussed the negatives, which Chang An realized was someone else's influence.
In the end, the family discussed it together, and Li Zhang Huan decided to accept the Bama aid mission. He said it was a great chance to take his technology global and solve the problems at work. Though the situation in Bama was complex, he believed he could overcome the difficulties if he worked hard at it.
