Episode 8 recap: Li Huan Secretly Returns to China
In episode 8, Li Zhang Huan says that his hometown in China used to be very poor, but has improved a lot now, and he believes this place can also develop. Nora says she knows Li Zhang Huan's people are friendly, but she's not sure what they can leave behind after leaving. Li Zhang Huan acknowledges that it's difficult to earn their trust, but he will try his best.
Li Zhang Huan talks to Li Zhi Wei, feeling that he had promised to help this place get out of poverty, so he can't just leave now. Li Zhi Wei points out that Li Zhang Huan had also made a promise to his mother, and now he's breaking that promise. Li Zhang Huan firmly refuses to go back, so Li Zhi Wei says that since he's not returning, there's no point in him staying here either, and he'll leave tomorrow.
Zhao Qi Feng sees Li Zhi Wei off, saying it must be hard being Li Zhang Huan's daughter. Li Zhi Wei replies that disappointment is the norm in their family. Li Zhi Wei asks Zhao Qi Feng to take good care of Li Zhang Huan. Zhao Qi Feng also brings the other two aid teams to meet with Li Zhang Huan's group - the construction team led by Old Sun, and the medical team led by Old Zhou.
Everyone brings lots of gifts for Li Zhang Huan's team, including food, supplies, and even a satellite phone. They are all very happy. Old Sun recounts how his wife was about to give birth before, but he ended up coming back to continue the aid work after seeing the slogans on the vehicles.
Zheng Wei Long makes a call home, but his child refuses to talk to him. Zheng Wei Long's ex-wife then calls, saying she wants to take the child away, as she is remarrying and her new partner agrees to let her take the child.
Zheng Wei Long disagrees, stating that they had originally agreed the child would stay with him.
Zheng Wei Long's ex-wife states that since Zheng Wei Long is rarely home, there's no way he can properly take care of the child, so she must take the child away. Li Han calls his girlfriend, only to find out her father has fallen ill.
Li Han also feels very guilty, thinking he can't be by his girlfriend's side at this time. Li Han's girlfriend understands that Li Han is working away, and it's a difficult situation for both of them. Upset about the child issue, Zheng Wei Long lashes out at Li Chun Hua with some harsh words.
Li Chun Hua is very angry, feeling that Zheng Wei Long has never respected her. She no longer wants to stay here, and since Li Han also wants to return to China, they plan to sneak back secretly. Li Han and Li Chun Hua buy their tickets, but then Li Chun Hua gets food poisoning and needs to use the restroom. However, boarding is done by strict order here, and the tickets will be sold to whoever gets on the plane first.
Li Han has to board the plane first, and when Li Chun Hua comes back, she misses the flight. Li Zhang Huan's team notices Li Chun Hua is missing, and coincidentally the generator here has broken down. Zheng Wei Long has been struggling to fix it for a long time, feeling guilty that he used to think Li Chun Hua was just a simple farmhand, and only needed to manage the lab, but now realizes they can't do even the basic things without her.
Li Chun Hua returns and gets the generator working again. Zheng Wei Long apologizes to her, and she feels the issue is in the past now. Li Zhang Huan finally learns about his girlfriend's father being ill, and realizes he has been too harsh on Li Han, who didn't even tell him about the emergency.
